I'm heading out to my restaurant this evening and I see this truck in front of me with a dog just wandering around in the back of the bed. The dog isn't secured and has tried to jump out of the truck several times. I call 911 and inform them of the situation and continue to tail the truck. They tell me that they have a squad car about 2 miles ahead waiting for us to pass.
We pass the intersection and the cop motions to me to slow down so he can get between me and the truck. He was pulled over right in front of my restaurant so I got to watch the situation unfold. The end result...the guy was put in the back of the squad car in cuffs, the female passenger in the car put the dog in the front seat and she drove the truck away. I don't know if he was arrested for the dog in the back or something else, but either way, it's a win/win for the dog and the driver is going to spend the next several hours (or more) in the tank! I hate seeing stuff like this. I have seen dogs fly out of the back of trucks and bounce across the road, sometimes being hit by other cars. It sickens me that people do this. Please, if you're have an animal, DO NOT do this to them. It's not safe for them or others on the road.

It's a win-tie. Win-win would be the guy loses the dog on the spot and it goes to a responsible owner. But nice job.

I wonder how many years the guy, and others, have successfully transported their dogs this way.

Judge judy had a case on this where a dog was in the back of a pick up truck and jumped out(i can t remember whether the dog caused an accident or bit someone).I remember Judge JUdy saying "people don t drive around with dogs in their trucks like that",and me thinking "maybe not in beverly hills, but I ve seen it happen in wisconsin here a ton of times".Not that I have done this nor condone it,but have seen it a lot.

If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Good for you, Chris!
(Please tell us that you weren't snapping that picture with your cell phone (and calling 911) whilst you were driving. That's pretty dangerous in itself.) |

Nothing is so important that it can't wait till you stop your vehicle.

My guess is many...but it doesn't make it right. Nor does it make it wrong. I'm of the school of thought that a something doesn't have to be good or bad, it can just be. Quote:

The memory still haunts me. I have seen people thrown aside by a lover and watch in horror as their lives crash into each other. I have also seen people thrown aside and consumed by drugs & alcohol. I'll never forget the day Max drank himself to death, his life disintegrated. The memory still haunts me. These experiences don't however incline me to want them outlawed, nor do I feel compelled to alert anyone of another's activity. There's dangers on them there roads, you pays your money and takes your chances. Me? I keep to surface streets, speeds 40mph or less, and most often on my custom most comfortable bike. Will my outlook be admired, championed even? Highly unlikely, but it was expressed none the less and all the more. |

As the dog isn't afforded the same innate protections as Max, it's reasonable to allow that the dog and Max shouldn't be afforded the same legal protections; less innate protection argues for more legal protection. (Please don't take this as an attempt to trivialize Max' death. Please accept my condolences for your loss.) |
