Just thought I'd put a link in. I love this effect. In my opinion this is one of the best self bending metal effects on the market, however it's limiting factor is the reset required. Any one who has this will know this! But with the "to the max" it takes 25 seconds to reset, and whats more you can do it in your pocket! So no going back to your bag, making the effect practical for the working pro. Plus you get an incredible ice production to boot! |

Great to see this released to the magic community.
I am lucky enough to have seen Kieron working this and it plays exactly like it does on the demo. It is a very very strong piece of magic that will get insane reactions from your audiences. |

Is this a reworking of the coin in ice effect of Nefesch? I'm assuming the key difference is the holder?

Hi zentao your correct this is very simlier of Nefesch stunning coin in ice routine it was interdependently created and was very great full for his kind permission to include this on the DVD.
For me it the block of ice production I do this every table. The holder is a utility device and make working with ice a workable idea hope that helps k |

Thanks for the reply Kieron - I didn't mean to suggest any copyright infringement, apologies if it came across this way. Who is stocking 'To The Max'?

Dear kieron,
I know you perform close-up, so I'm pretty sure you are going to get really excited when you see this. Seriously, take a moment to watch this demo of a new release out next week. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHwTI-ss8M8 Good isn't it! I've got a copy of To The Max reserved for when it launches next week. It's the first time that a way to make a block of ice appear in your spectators hand has been possible in real walk-around gig's, that you can reset fast and repeat over and over again. I'm going to be doing this at most of my own bookings! |

To The Max by Keiron Johnson - Produced by RSVP Magic - £24.99
Effect: Imagine producing a block of solid Ice at any time during your act! That's right. At any time hold out the spectator's hands and produce, from nowhere, a block of Ice in their own hands! This is stunning magic that is sure to be a reputation maker! Imagine taking a coin, having it signed and without any funny moves, freeze it into an Ice Cube. That's right the signed coin in the Ice Cube! Crushed and then given back to the spectator to check! Finally this is made possible using Keiron Johnson's unique holder that allows you, for the first time produce the same block of Ice multiple times during walkaround performances. This holder is made of a material that will keep the ice from melting and allow you to use it multiple times. Keiron has been using this in his act for many years and is finally releasing the method, technique and most importantly the special holder for the first time. A real reputation making routine. Production: As per usual with RSVP magic, the DVD is a no thrills, information packed example of how a magic DVD should be produced. The trailer shows the full effect leaving nothing now. Like a can of Ronseal Wood Preserve, It does exactly what it says on the tin. The cameras are stationary which helps reduce sea sickness which many magic DVD’s do. The DVD is somewhat helped by Keirons kwirky natuare. He makes it just that bit more entertaining to watch. You have the unit explained to you, the use of the unit and the To The Max production as well as the coin in ice. Everything is covered in depth and nothing is left out! Props: The holder is a interesting little thing. At first when I saw it, I genuinely thought. ‘How is this supposed to do anything?’. But in the nature of not being an ass, I decided to try it before I judge it. More about that in a second. You will also need a couple of other items that i’m fairly certain you already have lying around the house and if you don’t have them, you’ll get them for a couple of ££’s or for our american friends $$’s) at your local supermarket. The set upf of the holder is, well there is no set up! You put the ice into it, pop it into your pocket and your done. Now, to give a total and honest review, I took the effect out yesterday and performed it throughout the day. I tried several different ways to perform it to help you gauge the quality and strength of the effect. The holder does exactly what it says. My first impressions were totally wrong! It’s incredibly well made and although it’s never fully explained on the DVD what it is or where it came from, I had the ice in the holder for at least 3 hours at a time and my pocket, whilst cold, was totally dry. If your not confident with it in your pocket still, a simple piece of tissues paper either side of it will 100% put your mind at risk. Its very easy to use and not as invasive as I first though which is great for magicians concerned with pocket space. Performance: So, whilst performing the effect, I tried several different variants just because there was one aspect of the performance which doesn't personally suit my performance style. Without giving to much away, a certain move is used to bring the ice into play during the performance. Many magicians use the move often but personally, I’m lazy and can never be bothered. That being said, I did try Keirons performance of it also. The first way I performed the effect was simple as an ice production. Ask them to put their hand out, show my hands empty and produce the ice. I done this without using Keirons method of loading the ice. Suffice to say, this is a TERRIBLE idea! It bombed like Susan Boyle at a beauty contest! Just doesn’t work! Secondly, I performed it with Keirons flash paper presentation but not using his preferred loading method. Now, this is where the effect started to really work well. You can tell Keiron has worked the effect the same way I have. He has obviously tried ever possible scenario to come to this presentation. The reason? Because it just works so well. It is such a simple idea but it helps increase the strength of the final stage of the effect in the same way that a ambitious card routine builds in strength to ultimately make that end stage the bit they remember. Equally, in a strange way, the psychology of whats happening makes the final production just that bit more impressive. One of the chaps I performed this version too couldn't get the thought that I was just holding fire and the ice COULDN'T of been there because of the fire. I suppose if I was a laymen, id think of it the same way. The Ice couldn't be there because the fire would have melted it. Either way, this performance is great BUT not using Keirons loading method means your powers of misdirection need to be a little bit stronger. However, i’m fairly sure that any flash paper using magician out there knows the impact that strip of paper has on an audience for the first time. Misdirection should be taken care of for you during the performance. Last way I performed it was in its literal form. The way it was taught on the DVD. Using Keirons loading method and although it will make you a little bit moist, (get your mind out of the gutter) it works so well. It takes a lot of the heat of you during performance. It will take me a bit more time to get it flowing perfectly, but I think it will be worth it. Signed Performance: Now, I know what everyone buying this effect will be buying it for. The coin in ice effect. So how did this performance go? Well, to be totally honest with you, I didn't go out and perform this version. At the beginning of the DVD, Keiron mentions this same fact. Most people will be buying it for the coin in ice but Keiron prefers the production of the Ice cube much more effective. I shrugged this of and thought id much prefer the coin in ice. That being said, I much prefer the To the Max Ice production over the coin in ice effect! Reason being? Its such a beautifully simple and unusual effect already. Theres no need to over complicate it. The addition of the coin is unnecessary in my mind and although it might be cool to do it for that one special client every now and then, in my mind, the original routine is perfect already. I’ve always had the belief that if I watch a magic demo and the first handling of the effect on the DVD has won me over, there is no need for alternative handling because it has already inspired you! Additional thoughts: I think the effect is such a great and unusual performance piece. The surprising practicality of the effect means that its just as likely to be used in my close up set as a ring flight. As long as you are willing to embrace Keirons performance tips, theres not much that can go wrong. That being said, trying different variations is also a great idea. For example, cutting three heart pips from a card, charing the edges with a lighter and freezing them into a block of ice. Then with the card with the pips missing, char the edges of the cut out pip holes. Have the spectator select a card, lose it into the deck. The flash paper is brought out. The presentation begins and the Ice is produced. The pips are noticed inside and when the deck is checked, the pips have been burned out. A simple idea very similar to an effect in one of Ben Williams Repertoire booklets just mixed into To the Max. Again, To the Max is already and great routine and doesn't really need this added element but its simple to give you an idea of what else is possible. To the Max is a fantastic workers effect that if you perform in the right way will not only get you the reactions you crave, but it will have people genuinely talking about you for a very long time. It is worth the asking price but you have to have faith and work it before you judge it! Hopefully I’ve covered every aspect in what seems like an essay of a review but every detail counts! Awesome job Keiron! I cant wait to see what else we see from you! Jamie Daws
