Hi,
I was wondering if anybody has any inexpensive, make at home solutions to something that will hang towards the bottom of my jacket and allow me to steal about 7 coins at a pop easily. I know there are some marketed coin holdouts that are un-godly expensive. I'm just looking for this for a one-time use unless the effect gets very good reviews |

Well, I have never tried holding out 7, but I have found that at Wal-Mart there is an assortment of (Don't laugh) potato chip bag clips. A whole bag (approx 12) of various size clips goes for like 3 or 4 bucks, I personally use the Mini-clips size, and you get about 4 of these per bag (so these are VERY inexpensive), plus you can use the rest of the clips for their actual purpose.
I use a couple wide rubber bands wrapped around the contact surface to eliminate talking and attach a safety pin to the top & I am good to go; they allow me to hold out 2 or 3 coins, and steal them one at a time, but maybe you can work out a way to rig it up for 7 coins a pop.

There is a cheap, cheap holder made out of India. It is a bracket and a pin with a small bucket or say a half cylinder that rotates. It holds maybe 10 coins but I have a sponge ball on a thread that I use to load less than the bucket will hold at maximum. I think I got it for only $5 at Magic Smith before it went out, but you might try Magic Warehouse or Hank Lee even cause I know they are around.
The bucket swivels and quietly delivers all in one shot at such a little expense. If my description is too vague let me know and I will search for it for you. Marty Shapiro Greenville, SC |

Hank Lee or Daytona will have the classic style, four coin droppers in sets of two for a few dollars a set. (Brass with safety pins…)

In Gary Ouellet's "Close Up Illusions" he explain how to make the "Jamary Coin Clip." He acquired an angle bracket from the hardware shop and bent it to fit the coins. Just pin the bent clip to your jacket.

Get a plastic tube to hold the coins (coin shops have them) and hang that to your pants (not the jacket) but hidden by the jacket. By putting it on pants it always is in same location, jackets can swing, etc.
Put a rubber band around the tube, long-ways, notch the bottom and top so the band doesn't move. To get them out, slip rubber band aside and they fall into your waiting hand. Ireland Magic used to sell one that held 50 pennies, called "The Ireland 50-cent trick". (Gee, I should dig mine out and use it. It's so old it is NEW AGAIN.)

The Ireland 50-cent trick is killer. I first saw the effect performed by Jack Birnman, the card guy! He used a tax collector presentation and entertained as well as fried an entire room full of people with it. I need to dust mine off.

Just a question, is a coin holder and coin dropper the same thing?
|

Not necessarily. A holder can be a dropper.
A holder can be one that you need to GRIP the coins and pull them out. A dropper is usually made to DROP the coins out by either a pressure on the side or a release of some kind.

Some dealers list them as "dumpers" when they drop a stack at one time.
