The Coca Cola people always make it a policy about sending out letters to make sure that their product is not being used incorrectly. For the moment we will not use any of Coke bottles in our videos or within our literature. It is not necessary to do this effect with that type of bottle... any bottle will work.
As for the not doing it on TV... you can still break any bottle you want on TV, but you have to be careful about the logo. As anyone who saw Penn & Teller, you would have seen that all the bottles were strategically placed with the logo away from the camera. If you ever get a TV spot you will be told by the director to check for any logos on any product you use. What I meant about not using their bottles was simply we cannot use the bottles in any of our ads. We will still ship bottles to you for your use at any show you want to do it. The TV stuff is due to the logos and copyrights. We are trying to see if we can work out a deal where that will not matter. But having said all that... if you feel the least bit worried about our product then please do not buy it. We are not here to scam anyone so if you feel that something is "fishy" then please stay away. As I've said before, so far we have sold the bottle to many of the working pros who have not worried about some of the things brought up in this thread. Maybe they're wrong... who knows. Anyway, if you guys have any questions about the bottle please feel free to contact me at: artfulmagic@yahoo.com and I'll be more than happy to answer what I can... of course, don't ask how it works. Greg By the way, I know that everyone also worries about the personal liability. Well, this is not an effect for the timid. Glass does break. Pieces some times fly out. You have to be careful. We explain all the dangers in our pamphlet that comes with it and on the instructional video. If you look at some of the ads for effects such as STab & Smash you will see disclaimers to show you that it is dangerous. So far we have been able to directly talk to all of our customers and take them through all the steps verbally as to what to be careful with. Those that witness the demonstrations in person knew that it was an incredible effect with an inherent danger... glass breaks. Once again, if you feel you do not have complete control of your situations or you feel that in the future you might not be in complete control of all your situations then this might not be the effect for you. Rings have been know to be loss when doing Ring flite. I'm sure some have encountered unwanted fires when doing flashpaper or pyro effects. Some watches have been magnetized to the point of not working. If you have worried about any such outcomes in any effects then please stay away from this one... glass breaks. Pieces fly. An audience member holds the bottle. There is danger in this effect. Stay away. I do not say any of this sarcastically. I don't want anyone who feels they might put one in danger to buy or consider buying this effect. You have to be careful when performing this effect. Having said that... if you watched the Penn & Teller spots they had about six bottles exploding as multiple guests held onto them and no one wore protective gear... no one got hurt. That's been our record so far, but who knows so please stay away from the Devil's Cola Bottle if you even think it could be harmful. Thanks. Greg

In the initial kit you get a dozen bottle ready to go. If after learning the process you decide you do not want to do it yourself from then on you can purchase the bottles from Kevin Curtin at five dollars a bottle. If you decide you need them done with specific bottles then you have to discuss the rate for those bottles. So far the clients that have wanted different bottles didn't have to pay anything different than the five dollars per bottle because their choice was easy to get. If you decide on some weird or hard to get bottle then either you must supply the bottle or Kevin will have to charge you a bit more per bottle.
I hope that answers what you wanted. Greg

Thank you, Alexandre. I keep getting more and more amazed by the variety of ideas that our clients are coming up with to present the bottles. I'm sure I'll keep getting amazed.

I wonder whether or not this can actually be patented ... when I was in college I had a professor that was demonstrating the properties of what I think was called "annealing" or "tempering" of glass ... like saftey glass, it shatters. He did the same thing with a beaker. He pounded it on the table and nothing happened, but when he dropped a pellet into it, it shattered! Exactly the same as Rupert's Pearl's, and the fact that it's been around so long is what makes me wonder about the patenting ... but then, what do I know about law? BTW, you can find how to make your own Rupert's Pearls with a simple Google search, and I'll bet a little more research willl eventually lead you to being able to make a beaker or bottle.

Starrpower, I believe I mentioned this before, but I'll do it again. The process you speak of is the initial idea that Kevin had. He then went on for a over a year of experiments to try and get this to happen on a bottle that has already been produced. He finally did.
The process used to be done on very thick glass and had to be while the bottle was in production. Also, the bottles or pearls would shatter completely... our bottle shatters at a point that still allows a spectator to hold it. Kevin was able to come up with a way to make just about any bottle work and make it safe for the spectator to hold. Greg Forgot to mention... we now have clients in many parts of the world and one famous magician recently did a TV special that actually ends with the bottle. I don't know when and if that show will air here, but we were sent a copy of his show and it is one of very high production and quality. Greg

Greg, you've mentioned that it's patentable, but I've not seen mention that an application has been filed, has at least a provisional application been filed? If not, are you watching the 102 clock?

The process for patenting is being done by the inventor. I haven't completely stayed on top of it because it's in his hands.
As I've said before, this effect has been seen by those that have been performing for a very long time and they were impressed. Yes, they knew of where the idea came from, but they also realized that this was a new application and way to do it and present it. So far all of our clients are completely happy with the effect and even happier that we haven't sold too many. This is one of those effects that when purchased you want to keep all to yourself. Unfortunate for us and the inventor, but great for those that own it. Greg

Hi
I agree to starrpower and think $1.000 is too much for this. Best regards Stefan Behrens |

That's precisely why we are not lowering the price. We don't want this to be done at every birthday party. It's a very special effect that uses a brand new process and so far the big boys all love that fact that it is in the best of hands.
By the way, Marco Tempest has put together a great TV special that involves magic that he says are caused by spirits. I'm not sure when this will finally air, but it has high production values and puts some spins on a few known effects... plus he ends his TV special with The Devil's Bottle. Greg

I agree with Greg if they want to keep it "rarely seen" then the price should be high.
But what still sucks about magic, is that any tom, dick, and harry who have the funds can purchase pretty much anything they want, and beleive me I know some who do. It can be frustrating at times. I wonder if there is a more effective way to screen the buyers or protect the secrets than just by the price tag? P.

Probably not, Peter. I guess the only way would be to do an extensive background check on every customer, but who could afford to do that.
I know that some within the mentalism community like to keep their sales very private and do ask a bunch of questions to all their potential buyers. Well, so far we haven't gotten any tom, dick and harry, but it's bound to happen. We also have all our customers sign a confidentiality agreement so I hope that will also keep the secret under wraps. The srange thing is I have seen this thing in a an experiment on how different materials respond to something {not saying what it is don't want to tip the secret if I am right }
and glass reacted by imploding actually . and as a barmann we used to do something really similar I'm which you would slap the bottle and the bottom would just drop off well have to go now , have to renew my subscription at the pottery class

Sniper1, I do know about the bottom coming off the bottle, but isn't with a full bottle?
Anyway, whether you think you know or not, Kevin worked out all the details in a year's worth of experiments... and how it's done is very precise. As a matter of fact, for a year he couldn't get it to work after countless tries. He has worked it out so no experimentation is needed. We've already seen some try to change the "process" slightly and the bottles didn't work. It's a very exact science. Greg

Interesting post. You have one post on this board and pick this. Are you a magician? I am interested in your motive for posting. Not being critical, just very curious.

Now that this thread has popped back up, I have a question: do these bottles retain their properties indefinitely? I have bottles that are several years old. Will they work just as well as freshly created bottles?

I've had a few bottles for a couple of years and they still worked.
