Hi All,

Does anyone have any of Steve Santini's escape books? Which ones do you have? What do you think of them? Were they helpful?

I'm considering a purchase and wanted someone's insight first.

Thanks,

Joe Marotta

Hi Joe,
I have "Concealments - Hiding the tools of the escape artist's trade" and "Devices of Human restraint"

The concealment book has a wealth of info about concealment of keys, picks etc. Very helpful, a great book in my opinion.

Devices of human restraint is more of a history of restraint devices, but also has quite a bit of usable info on keys, handcuffs
and mechanisms.

I would recommend these books to anyone interested or involved in Escapology.

Tony C.

Thanks Tony.

Do you know where I can purchase them? Does escapology-on-line still carry them?

Thanks again.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the reply. I just borrowed Santini's "Concealments" book. Wow. Great stuff in there. Steve is quite a creative guy. This is definately one worth purchasing. Looks like I'll have to order it direct from him.

I love the idea of using the Hiatt Blue Box to conceal items. What I didn't understand was how to keep them from 1.being discovered and 2. falling out of the blue box when being applied to the cuffs.

One glance into the blue box and they're found!

Any thoughts Tony?

Thanks
Joe Marotta Smile

Hi Joe,

Glad you liked the concealments book, it is fantastic!

You bring up some valid points on the blue box.

I would suggest you ask the man himself, he is a great guy and is very friendly and helpful.

Anyone interested in Steve's books or escape equipment should also e-mail him for info.

Hi Tony,

Steve Santini contacted me about the blue box idea of his. Here are the answers to my questions...

The 'tools' in the blue box won't be discovered if (as always) the EA is in charge of the situation.

When the challanger's cuffs are presented, use the pretext that not only will you accept the challenge, but you are going to make it much MORE difficult by adding a blue box onto the cuffs. You present and attach your blue box onto the cuff's chains and then padlock it into place (use a modified lock of your choice here). Now you can put on the cuffs and you are ready.

You never give the challenger the chance to inspect your blue box and there should be no obvious sounds made by your tools inside once the box is locked onto the cuffs.

Because of the size limitation of the interior of the blue box, you're limited in what you can secrete into it. A Darby key won't fit inside, and you certainly can't keep a set of S&W Model 94 keys inside of it. So, this method won't work for 'every' challenge, but it will work on quite a few!

I like this idea so much that I'm going to use it at the IBM convention this week! Shhh! Don't tell anyone! Smile

Thanks Tony and thanks Steve Santini.

Just a correction to my post above...

Steve Santini was kind enough to spend some time with me (on the internet) offering me some really good ideas. He just explained to me that you CAN actually conceal a Darby or Mod 94 key in the blue box with some modifications to both! His suggestions were really genius.

Well I'm happy to report that I just completed the modifications that Steve suggested and it works wonderfully!

You are right Tony, Steve Santini is not only a really great guy, but he's also one of the most innovative and brilliant minds in escapes today.

Thanks again Steve and Tony.

I am thinking that Steve may well have moved on from this business. At least I have not heard anything about him in several years.

If you're looking for creativity as applied to escapes, you might want to consider:

HYPER HOUDINI HANDCUFF HACKS - MENTAL OVER METAL by Shawn Evans.

I think the book was published last month.

The book goes way, way beyond his first book on the subject.

The creativity is backed up with some very technical stuff, such as the chapter on Detent Exploits. And then, there is a lot of new stuff (Flash Attack- using fishing line to hack open cuffs) that I've never seen in print before.

My favorite is the chapter on using playing cards to hack handcuffs.

Link: http://www.mimesis-magic.com/mimesis_books.html

Listing:

* Learn 5 creative ways to hack handcuffs with a deck of playing cards - yes, with a deck of cards!
* On stage, learn the secrets to immediately passing your cuffed hands through your body – from front to back and back to front again.
* Learn how to create a handcuff hack using a smart phone.
* Learn how to hack open handcuffs with a simple string or fishing line!
* Learn how and when you can shim open double-locked cuffs.
* Learn new updates to opening handcuffs with a drinking straw.
* Learn how to easily pick double-lock cuffs with household materials.
* Learn how to escape from cuffs butt naked.
* Learn how to hack HIPS handcuff keys for personal enhancements.
* Learn the tools needed to accelerate your handcuff hacking skills.
* Learn ground-breaking detent exploits to manipulated double-locked cuffs
And most importantly, learn the overall secrets of Mental over Metal.

Chapter 1: Handcuff Harangue
Chapter 2: Nose Picking
Chapter 3: Picks & Power Picking Points
Chapter 4: Permissible Proxy Picks
Chapter 5: Shim Slipping Secrets
Chapter 6: Scarecrow Hack
Chapter 7: Hacking Cuffs with Playing Cards
Chapter 8: DIY Strong Strength Shims
Chapter 9: Ready-Made HC Hack
Chapter 10: Key Peg & Detent Exploits
Chapter 11: Flash Attack
Chapter 12: C-note Cuff Caper
Chapter 13: Getting Hip with HIPS
Chapter 14: Pipe Cleaner Camouflage Hack
