We're going to discuss Jesus getting angry, there's a legend that he went down into Hell and tore the gates off the wall.

That Tennyson clip was great to hear. Funny how badly poets recite their own verse. I have heard WB Yeats doing Inisfree, and it is dreadful - but brilliant, if you know what I mean. Thanks, Magnus.
I can't say much about this, but a friend of mine will feature shortly on a Discovery Channel show. He was challenged to recreate (and better) one of the greats of our art, and ended up with a very unique keepsake. It all happened this morning, and when the broadcast date is announced I can say more. The item was only worth a couple of hundred dollars, but he (or I) would have given a leg for it.

No one mentioned it yet.
If it ever existed it would have to be right up there with the most valued items in the world, if not the most valuable. The Holy Grail. No one really knows what is stored at the Vatican. Might as well throw in the Ark of the Covenant for good measure.
If I were to agree with you. Then we would both be wrong. As of Apr 5, 2015 10:26 pm I have 880 posts. Used to have over 1,000

Musical instruments seem to be particularly iconic, or at least very closely associated with the musicians who used them. That Hofner bass isn't something that Sir Paul happpened to own, or that he happened to handle once or twice, but the means through which, in part, he earned his living and created his art. Day after day, year after year. A personal weapon would also share some of those characteristics. For example, in addition to those already mentioned, how about Sergeant Alvin York's Model of 1911 Colt pistol?
By the way, a very good case has been made, that a military historian recovered the brass cases from the 21 rounds that Sgt. York fired from that pistol as he was attacked by a German platoon, see here, with a photograph. |

A very interesting article on the search for the spot where Sgt. York stood can be found here, in pdf.

Don't know about those WWI fighters, but the wooden cross that was placed on his first grave by the German officers who buried Lt. Quentin Roosevelt, the gallant airman shot down behind their lines, can currently be seen at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Museum.

The Davenport Hotel is a local icon that was almost torn down, despite being on the historical registry. It was designed by my favorite architect (not that I know a ton about architecture) Kirtland Cutter. It included many innovations that were unique for a hotel at the time, such as air conditioning.
You'd think that such an icon would be priceless, but when Walt Worthy stepped in to save the building he payed a paltry $6.5 million for the entire block. Of course, he went on to renovate it into the finest hotel in Spokane. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Davenpo......hington)
