Doubtless like me you have a number of decks, many gaffed, some stacked, others just ordinary decks. And you store these when not in use.
How do you keep track of which deck is which? Writing, even in pencil, anywhere on the deck case seems like a bad idea, at least for effects where spectators handle or otherwise can see the case. Any other ideas? What do you use? |

Great question.
I use different decks that are matched against a save-list of the gaffs therein. My red Bikes are NS, my blue Tally-Ho’s are R & S, my smooth Aladdin’s are WS, etc. I have an L.A. Police Gear bag with multiple pockets – all of my gaffed decks are aggregated yet segregated in this one bag. Hope this helps!

Any details you can furnish about that bag with multiple pockets? Also, I need to minimize storage space on my apparatus shelves at home, so a separate carry bag might not even be a viable option. |

There are some great items in the lower price range too...I can't speak highly enough about this exceptionally functional and durable line!

Using black ink in the bar code area won't get you busted, particularly if it is just one letter or digit. Works for me,

For storage, I have a paper sleeve (made out of a piece of paper about 3-4 inches wide and a piece of scotch tape) wrapped around the deck. I write the name of the gaff on it (ie Stripper, ID, Svegali) so I know which deck is which. I generally only carry one gaff deck with me at a time so I just remember which pocket I put it in.

They have many products. Can you be even more specific? There are some dozen different bags on that page (not counting the rifle bags!) |

I use the thin post it notes with cheat sheets like for instance if I'm using an inv*****e deck I put B-flip R-Pull letting me know if they pick a black card I need to flip the deck to pull the cads out... they pick a red card - I just pull it out I also set a joker on each dide to cover the top and bottom from getting glimpsed by accident. Other decks a simpl strip or sven will do

I have always written in pencil at the bottom of the box - never ever had anyone see that.

All my card cases have a letter on to tell me what they are. My one way deck just has an arrow on it for example. No-one notices because I don't use the case if I'm using a gaffed deck.
I also try to keep the band of paper that you get with a new deck that says what it is. Obviously it's removed & left at home whilst you use it & replaced afterwards. Organisation is vital for us magicians else we forget what the hell it is we've got! Don't be afraid to get a little OCD with these kind of things. |

I use rubber bands on the card boxes.
I have 3 ID decks (one purchased & 2 home made). I place a plain rubber band on the box on the long side. My Brainwave deck has a plain rubber band on the short side. My Cheek to Cheek has a red rubber band on the long side. etc. You just have to remember to put on the rubber bands consistently. After a while you don't have to think which is which. Also I now have rubber bands available for other uses if I need them.

Small pencil notation on bottom of box. In storage each gaffed or specialty deck is in a zip lock back with a post it note (you can also just write on the bag with a sharpie)

For storage in a drawer or box, stick post-it notes on each dck.
