I am not speaking of the Parasols per se, but the methods for steals can be transitioned to Fans as well. Front loads, table loads, etc.
Shamada has totally disappeared from the earth, but several years ago, he advertised to teach is parasol act for $10,000.00, I don't think anyone took him up on the offer, as I do not seen anyone performing it, except of course his daughter has continued her wonderful parasol act with oriental parasols. |

A clearer picture of his act. Man, I do not see how he would do this with them on the sides and behind the hosts and judges, They had to get an education
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZb5nBZ4tg8&feature=related Even Clearer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQ-9VFV-hYo&feature=related I don't know, some of the steals do not look good on camera. |

Meeting and seeing Shimada at the Faucett Ross Magic Fest was phenomenal. You would have LOVED that convention...it was MAGNIFICENT. I asked Shimada who he thought the greatest stage manipulator of all-time was and he said there were three: Channing Pollack, Norm Nielsen, and Cardini. After he told me that, he leaned over and whispered to me.....<so as to NOT offend any of the other magicians present>... "but Norm Nielsen has the best overall stage presentation....Norm's SPECIAL". Once, at Abbott's Get-Together I met Fukai and asked him who he thought the greatest stage manipulator of all-time was...and he said...... Shimada. The $10,000 fee was for all props and all performance rights and you stayed with Shimada at his apartment for the hands-on training. |

Bill, this is great stuff... although it doesn't fit into my act, I'm thinking of ordering the dvd purely for my collection.

Bill, is 52 magic best place to buy them? I have found asian stores that sell paper/silk fans. Are they any good compared to ''manipulation'' fans?

Just found on Hocus-Pocus Magic site they are selling a combo set DVD and 4 oriental hand fans for $72.00.
http://www.hocus-pocus.com/magicshop/?p=22155 They do have the fans separate at $45.00. http://www.hocus-pocus.com/magicshop/?p=22155 The Magic Warehouse also has them for the same price. http://themagicwarehouse.com/cgi-bin/fin......PULATION FAN FYI - If you sign up on Hocus-Pocus site, they email sales to you. This could bring them to as low as $29.25. So if you wait for a 35% sale, you can make a saving of $15.75. Just thought you all would be interested in this find. |

I bought 4 fans from 52 magic in Oct. The total of the fans with shipping was $48.61. That is $12.15 ea. approx. They sent the fans out from Shanghai China Fed Ex regular ground and I had them in a week. No kidding, no duty, no problems. I was able to track the package from Shanghai to my doorstep online with Fed Ex.
I just looked up the actual dates in Oct. 52 Magic shipped the fans on Oct. 9th and I received them on Oct.12th. |

4 fans??? They're 4 dollars a fan, so it would make 16 dollars for 4 fans. Something is not right...

Total for fans with shipping was $48.61. That would be $16.00 for the fans and $32.61 for shipping. Believe me that is what I paid for the fans. It is still a good deal.

RJH,
I bought them before Penguin started stocking them. I also ordered black and white fans for a routine I was working on. It looks as if you have to buy the assorted colors as a package from Penguin. Besides, Penguin does not have stock right now and will not until Dec. 20th. Price was not the issue, delivery was. David |

Yes, I understand. Are you planning on doing a little video of your fan manipulation? I would love to see.

Being no one decided to say anything about the Manipulation Fans, I was forced by curiosity to purchase a set of the fans. They arrived today, and I will say they handle very well. They are lighter then the plastic Dragon fans I have and they have wood ribs that is wider them any I have seen an oriental hand fan. The colors of the cloth is bright red, green, blue, and yellow. They are approximately 12.5 inches long and when opened 24" long, he material extends about a half inch beyond the ribs, so it depends on where you consider the end of the hand fan to be. If to the end of the cloth, then it is 13" long. The cloth is a rayon type material. Should hold up well.
I don't know why, but they only painted the ribs just above where the material would start. Thus on the none rib side, some of the black shows through on the yellow, red, and green very noticeably. They should have just painted the entire rib. I wondered by the Po-Cheng Lai, in the video produced the fans with the ribs showing. I always thought that was the back of the fan, not the front. Aside from that, the fans open very easily. Anyone working on these routines will advance much faster with these wooden fans over any of the others I am familiar with over the years. These make the cool sound when snapped open, Burrup!! Really loud - as well. Snap! Snap! Why struggle, use a product that works from the start. Highly Recommended!! |

Just not as often. Last I checked, he was booked for a Magic Convention in Spain (Or Mexico?) later this year, I fail to recall which. |
