Hey all, real quickly I want to get your opinion on how my billiard handling is coming. This is simply my classic palm. The first video is just me standing normal with hands at my sides. The second one is me actually classic palming a 1-3/4" Fakini in each hand. I will post some other videos along these same lines next week, they will be me doing some other practice stuff. I will want opinions on those too!
Note: You will see a flash of a ball in my left hand. I am not particularly interested in that stuff right now. I just want your opinion on the comparison of my hand positions from each video. How close is my hand with a ball to the hand without one? By the way, if I was turned so my left side was towards the audience, the flash would never have been seen. Video 1 - Just standing - http://youtu.be/hm1ZqrVLswA Video 2 - Ball Classic palmed in each hand - http://youtu.be/-R5y-YQZT6k |

The non-dominate hand will tend to mimic the action of the other. Gradually, the motions become smoother, but this "crutch" will definitely expedite the process. Regarding your first two videos... don't worry about extending your fingers when a ball is palmed if it means the thumb will be glaringly absent. Also realize that all sleights are contextual. It will be the surrounding actions and premise that will be your biggest "sell". The sleights and palms simply have to blend as they normally would at the moment in time. But so far, so good! Keep working!

Part 2 looks okay as well. I agree with Baker's comments, but I believe you should not just practice moves once you have the basics down. Include your next segment of sleight to the destination you trying to accomplish.
If you turn the wrist back a forth, just a little, it makes it look a little more difficult to the audience. |

These are simply my building blocks. I think the classic palm and finger rolls are the meat and potatoes of all billiard routines. I also see a lot of world class and even tournament winning magicians with so-so, near obvious classic palms or even attempts to finger palm a large ball that just seem to scream "HEY I HAVE A BALL IN MY HAND!" I want to avoid that if possible.
My next focus is productions and securely placing a ball into classic palm from the fingertips. I think those two will be the next most important parts of the routine. Once I have those things down, I will begin finding a context for the show. |

I suggest you get yourself a copy of Salvano DVD on Billiard Ball magic. He is a true expert at palming. Watch his promo and be amazed!

Michael Baker: I was only extending my fingers in the video so everyone could see exactly where I am at with my classic palm. I know that extending the fingers like that looks stupid without the thumb. I think that the thumb will eventually come though.
I have a question for everyone though, does anyone know of a vanishing wand that would have enough substance to use for a Vernon wand spin vanish? I have been practicing it for my cups and balls. I was thinking that if I vanished a ball with a wand spin and then vanished the wand that it would be pretty cool. |

Yes, looks great. Adding the thumb would be nice!
