A spectator is given a deck of cards or uses his own. He is instructed to shuffle them and select a card while the magician stands on the other side of the room with his back to the spectator. He is further instructed to put the card anywhere in the deck and shuffle the cards, remembering his selection. All of this occurs in the spectator's hands- the Magician touches NOTHING! Then, the magician asks the spectator to pick a number from one to fifty-two. The magician then deals the cards face down until he reaches that number. Setting the rest of the deck aside, he reveals that the card that was next IS the selected card! Belive it? Believe it!
Now is it just me or does that sound just too good to be true? I'm not work shy or anything, I appreciate that there must be something that you have to do and by the sounds of it that something must be VERY bold. I'm just wondering if anyone has this and what they thought of it. How acurate a description is that? If this plays exactly as it says it could be a contender for the most brilliant card trick in the world! Anyone have anything to say about this? I'd love to hear it. Dave.

This is an AWESOME effect. it is a trick that can be done with very hard sleights and bill goldman eliminated all those sleight and replaced them with simplicity. you will fool yourself with the initial part of this trick. I performed this trick on my girlfriend and she took a step back and went "WHOA". She has seen many of my tricks and she knows most of my card controls but this one blew her away...the method is so devious and simple. I highly recommend this booklet. You have to create a great patter and have some good audience management in some ways, but the effect and the resulting reaction is worth it. The description you wrote is missing one small piece of information, but then again that would reveal the method. Get IT!!!
I aslo forgot to mention that his other work, two for the show, monkey in the middle etc...is also spectacular |

Here's the page that has the video link: https://vault2.secured-url.com/jbtv/home.asp
It obviously uses an old principle, for the first part, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the effect is impressive. I've got to get one. |

It's a DVD. I bought it a while ago and it's good.
The trouble is that the spectator can really foul this up for you by making a mistake - but it only seems to happen when doing it one on one, not for groups. In a group situation, the other spectators will correct the person picking the card, if they make a mistake on the random selection of the card. The magician should turn around, so as to not be viewing the cards during the selection process, and that's part of how the magician could allow the effect to mess up. Be prepared to exercise a great deal of verbal control over the spectator's actions. I get the impression that Mr. Goldman doesn't perform the effect much anymore, because he doesn't cover all of the verbal control issues in the presentation of the effect. I think the audience had seen the effect before and knew what to do. Anyone who performs it will want to have the routine thoroughly scripted, so as not to leave the effect up to chance. |

The only thing I don't like about this is when you count to the number and reveal the card, not my type of thing, does anyone do anything different?

Sal Piacente's 4,5,6-Packet Trick eliminates the counting within the patter...I've combined both methods to achieve what I think is the cleanest method for this effect.
