Peter,
I see you've waited awhile for a response. I got Psychophysiological Thought reading a while back (2 months?) I really liked it, but I'd buy any book on contact mind reading. Since there are only about a dozen books on the subject, it's not so hard to do. I'm glad I'm not a card nut. First thing to realize is that a book about contact mind reading is about like a book on how to ride a bike. You learn more by doing. Also note that I use the term “contact mind reading” in preference to the more common term used in the book. That term is a bit too revealing for me. Here's an overview of the book: He devotes the first chapter , 45 pages, to contact mind reading, including a correct history of the method. He covers practice tests, and two practice "tricks". The latter are effects that can be done with contact mind reading, but have "backup" trick methods so you can check your accuracy in actual performance. He cover's getting numbers, shapes, and letters, and has a few good suggestions for effects (the murder mystery, letter delivery, etc.. ) There's a segment on non-contact mind reading, and an intriguing method for getting numbers non-contact. He sums up by giving presentational points that will help greatly in actual performance. The rest of the book is composed of chapters on Pendulums, “spirit contact (ouija boards, and a very weird non-contact ouija board), Table tilting, and Dowsing. The pendulum is the longest chapter, covering 17 pages including basic technique, and a half dozen effects with the pendulum. The chapters on table tilting and dowsing are brief but interesting, and includes a nice dowsing routine contributed by Brother Shadow. Other Items are a chapter on “the Scientific Psychophysiological response”, and an extensive bibliography. The book totals 91 pages. Included in the back half of the book is a reprint of “How to read people’s Minds”, a 73 page book that looks to have been published around the turn of the century, but no date is given. It’s a worthwhile read, but you should just consider it lagnappe. As for what I think of Banachek’s book- His style is spare. He covers a lot in a few words, but he pretty much covers it all. I like the routines which combine contact mind reading with trick methods. The “non-contact numbers” is pure gold. I was dissapointed with the chapter “the Scientific Psychophysioligical response”. I’ve read elsewhere, in a book, and on the web of the science behind it, and it wasn’t really covered here. It’s an excellent book to start with, if that’s what you had in mind. I’d classify it as one of the top three books on the subject, the other two being “Making Contact” and “Practical Contact Mindreading” That’s enough for now. I’ll review “practical C. M. R.” and “Hellstromism” later if you are still interested. Regards, Victor |

Hi!
Many thanks for your help! I am writing a reply before reading your message. I think it's fantastic that such a resource as this forum exist, because I know that a few years ago, researching on material of any kind was unbelievably harder. If this was the 80's and I was trying to find out about a book, especially on such an esoteric subject, my first and only move would have been to go to the public librarian and draw a 'huh?'. I have an IT background and to me the parallel that I see between psychology and mentalism and computers is fascinating. Of course, NLP draws on just such a concept. But I know that the human mind is perhaps the ultimate unknowable mystery, and mentalism is the ultimate fantasy adventure within its realm. Thanks again for your help, and if I may be of any service in the future, Peter What do you think of 'Hellstromism' and 'Contact mind reading' by Dariel Fitzkee? I went ahead and purchased the Banachek/Burlingame book on your review BTW. Cheers Peter |
