I'm trying to craft a routine to include in a presentation for middle school kids about choices. Not just basic "what do I do now" choices, but long-range stuff. I'm thinking of showing photos of Olympic weightlifters and marathoners, comparing the foundational desires that led to the choices that got them where they are - and how hard it could be to change that direction.
Okay - so I've got two great visual examples of people who formed a foundational desire, set their eyes on a goal, headed in that direct, and worked out the decisions along the way. Yah, I could just talk my way through that - but I really wish there was some way to weave some kind of routine around these two photos to make it more memorable. (And no - this is NOT the only routine in the presentation. The whole thing will last 25-30 minutes, and include some quick visual stuff and two, maybe three full routines.) My brain just won't go there for some reason, and I'm drawing blanks. Any jump-starts? Ed |

Off the top of my brain: hippity hop. The photos are set into wooden bases so they stand up. The runner is facing to the left and the weightlifter is facing to the right so the photos look as if they are facing one another. Cover with handkerchiefs. Turn the photos around three times. Now show they are facing away from one another... going in another direction. Cover and turn the photos around three times again and they are facing one another once more. Then without covering, turn the photos around and show what's on the back...something completely different, like trophies, or whatever makes sense to your plot.

Tear and restore paper. Show a large paper with both men in out of shape or skimpy positions. Tear up the paper explaining their low self-esteem. Reach over to get some magic dust to sprinkle over the pieces of paper, explaining what the men started doing to make success. Open the pieces of paper to show it is restored with drawings of the men in great shape.

Another excellent idea (which is probably why it escaped me!).
Thanks, DynaMike. Ed |
