If the Tigers and Cardinals make it to the WS, it will be a tie breaker WS. St. Louis beat Detroit in 1934 and Detroit won in 1968. Both World Series featured so many of the game's greatest.
So a World Series prediction: Detroit beats St. Louis in seven. I just don't see the Cards having the depth of the Tigers this year. The Cardinals are tough: they beat the team with the best record in baseball this year but unless they close out the Giants quickly, they are going to run out of fuel. That said, another thing so beautiful about baseball is that anything is possible unlike football. Truth be told, I was rooting for the Nats as it was there first post-season since 1933. But they are a young team and barring injuries will be even better next season. As for my Pirates, we did so well until the September swoon and as a result, the continuation of a losing streak that is the record for all professional US sports franchises: 20 losing seasons in a row. We need a good hitting shortstop to shore up the offense. The thing that worries me is that the GM Neal Huntington is going to make some stupid off-season moves. The Pirates like the Nationals are a young team and until September's slide into the void, were a force to be reckoned with in the NL. I guess it could be worse though: I at least was alive the last time the Bucs were in the post season (1992). Pity the Cubs because I highly doubt that anyone is alive who attended the last World Series they won in 1908! Addendum: I am excited to see a Verlander-Carpenter matchup in the 2012 Series. |

I disagree with the "anything is possible as opposed to football" reference. The Tigers and the Cards had identical records this year; of course the Cards could win. That's hardly an "anything is possible" situation. The last Super Bowl winner was a .500 team 87.5% of the way though the season - much more of an "anything is possible" situation than happens most years in baseball.

I just might have to get a Little Caesars pizza to celebrate the sweep.

I LOVED how Fielder emphatically waved everyone off for the series ending infield fly!
You know, I really do not like the Yankees but I do have to confess that I am hopeful Jeter makes a full recovery. On the diamond he is an old school, hard nosed player and I admire him a lot. As for A-Rod, I remember when he really pushed to get inner city kids baseball programs going. That however was a different A-Rod than the one who spends game time getting women's phone numbers. So, I really think that San Francisco, despite fighting hard in the NLDS simply cannot come back and take St. Louis. Giants fans should be proud nonetheless! And thank heaven LA swooned!!! I hate them almost as much as the Yankees So Motown, imagine it brother! Game one of the World Series: Verlander v. Carpenter!! I love pitching duels and if St. Louis wraps this up tonight, I think we will see an amazking matchup for game one! I really admired Carprenter's poise in the NLDS and Verlander of course is sheer class. How cool when Miggy was talking post game and Verlander was pointing to him and saying "MVP, MVP!" Viewership is up considerably for the post season and regular season attendance for Major League Baseball was excellent this year. The Pure Game is emerging from the impure steroid era! Hallelujah!! I will shut up for now. I could talk and type baseball 24/7!!! Look on the bright side folks: I do not like football, hockey, nor basketball, so, after the Series, no more baseball babble from Vlad! Unfortunately, I will still make moribund posts (thanks for that Roland Henning ) Namaste, Vlad PS: GOOOOOOOOOO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

So that was the leagues best pitcher?
Ok, anybody can have an off night. That was a sound thumping The Giants handed out tonight... But it's only one game. Lets see if they can keep the momentum rolling. |
