This really looks lovely. It looks to be a quality wood piece in the tradition of Mikame - but I don't think it is Mikame. The MIkame Wonder box was quite different as I recall.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-ftMbHOWas A heck of a great routine using an Invisible Deck - really lovely. Also what a price for a prop like this. I like what I see...I saw this at Penguin: WONDER BOX is a drawing card case that you've never seen before. Not only just the deck case's color change, but you can perform the transformation from a deck case to other items such as coins, ropes and so on. The limitation is only your imagination. WONDER BOX is made from high quality wood and printed with a golden crown on the top. This is perfect for card magicians. Real deck comes out from the empty box. Deck vanishes. Card revelation using an Invisible Deck. Show the deck case to perform some card magic, but during the performance you can change your mind. Say "Let's start with coin magic!" and reopen the drawer to show coins. Deck changes into other deck Color change of the deck case Plus more!!

I agree, it does look interesting. But quality could be an issue with an item like this.
There's another post on it here: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=8&5 I'm waiting to hear a review before I take the plunge.

I am sure this is not a Mikame prop. They made a similar drawer box but it did not have the deck color change feature - a clever addition for a drawer box.

Mikame or no Mikame, the prop looks nice (+ the added feature) and I feel it’s worth the price (Penguin Magic price).

I like this a lot for the invisible deck routine. not sure I would use it for much else.
but I do the ID all the time, and this makes it a more complete routine IMO. question: is this box examinable ever? not a big deal if it isn't, but it would be nice if it was examinable after the production at least. another drawback is that this isn't really practical to carry around with you. nice thing about the ID is that you can throw it in a coat pocket or something. |

I just ordered this and will review for you guys when I get it.
I don't think too much heat would be on the box as the deck that ultimately appears (in the ID routine) is ultimately removed. If anything heat would be on the deck - but as most of us know with a good ID performance, the deck is usually never an issue. This would be nice for stage or a larger group - certainly not walkaround. Even if it's not Mikame, I was most impressed by the apparent quality...and the demo video which seemed to have shades of being produced in the far east... and the perfomer was straightforward. It looked clean with no funny moves that I could see.

$50 for a nice wood piece is darn nice. Lets see if it is as good as it looks.
I really like the invisible deck idea - takes it to an interesting level.

Man, I paid $250 a couple of years ago for a nice wood card case drawer box for the invisible deck. Didn't regret it for a minute, as it always adds a nice visual punch to the routine and gets great reactions. Just based on the demo, though, this one looks as good or better (with the color change), at 1/5 the price. I'll wait for the reviews, but this appears to be a real bargain and a sweet enhancement to all sorts of routines.

This looks great to me too, but before I buy I will wait on a few first hand reviews before I buy though I think it still looks like it will be worth the $$ based on the video.

I like magic boxes and I like this one.
The quality of the Wonder Box 3X is much higher than I anticipated and the workings are pretty smooth. All three changes are fun to do. The red bicycle gimmick in my red version is a slightly brighter hue of red than normal but no spectator will likely ever notice this. The crown emblem on the top is a nice touch and is a useful guide to the workings. This box at that Penguin price is very impressive indeed. Created by Akira Ishizaki |

My box from Penguin just arrived today.
Will report back shortly. Looks pretty nice - this isn't high gloss mahogany but still the quality as Eddie said is quite nice indeed. The red gimmick looks like a normal bike box. The inks on lots of cards always vary but to my eyes this appears to be a part of a real bike box.

After playing with this for the past hour my verdict is...
WONDER BOX IS A WINNER The box itself is nicely stained and feels and looks quite solid. The unit appears to have made well and to tight tolerances. The decorative gold crown on top does in fact serve a useful purpose, with a little diamond/club/heart and spade within the crown. The working of this little gem are so stealthy that at first I was a tad confused even after reading the one page instructions. The instructions do include 6 photos explaining the method, and they have enough info that anyone will be up and running in minutes. I thought the directions were a little muddled in that it didn't make it crystal clear that the box is capable of THREE separate modes. Once you understand that, the I had that "aha" moment. The working are quite clever. There is no way that the box could be handled or examined - but the 3 possible phases are as clean as on the video demo. The drawer slides smoothly for all 3 phases. The drawer when empty doesn't look at all fishy - it looks plain empty. The 2nd phase has the red deck appearance but I could see situations where one might just skip to phase 3 where my blue I'd appears. Also, be careful NOT to insert your real deck into the box in its first phase position - did that by accident when I started playing with this - you probably should avoid doing this as its a tight fit in and out. All in all I really like this. It feels almost like a higher end Tenyo Elite product without a doubt. It will be interesting to see the durability over time, but clearly this is a superb card box for the money. Overall: 9/10

A good review from both Eddie Garland and Saysold are good enough for me. I don't own any devices like this, although I know how it works, and I like what I see in the demo. Since the ID is a favorite effect of mine, this will take it to the next level.
Brett, could I ask you for the box dimensions? Looks to be about 6" x 3 1/2" x 1 1/2" from the demo. Being too large, and being a little light on legal tender, are the only things stopping me from making this my next purchase. I'm going to have to see if it fits into my interior jacket pockets first. I know that it will fit into my wife's purse, but she's not always with me, and she refuses to carry things for me anymore, anyway! Looks like I'll have to figure out a minimal extra purchase in order to get free shipping from Penguin. |
