Got this and love it.
Here's a question for all of you, and I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask it. Maybe you should PM me, but I'll leave that up to any answerers. On the performance video for this, the magician asks the spec what color the back of the card was. The spec answers "Red". The magician first shows a blue deck, and then pulls out a red deck, which he obviously is prepared to use. So everything went the way the magician wanted it to go. What would happen if the magician was not prepared to use the color of the deck that was requested? I have a blue gimmick as in the video, and I am prepared to use a red deck. What would be a good handling if the spec answers that his card had a blue back? I can show a blue deck, but I will need to use a red deck. The one page instructions does not address this problem, and I am not wise enough to come up with a good answer. I can come up with a feeble answer, but not a good one. Any help from anyone out there would be appreciated! |

I start the effect Bats by stating right from the start of the ID presentation what the color of the deck is... so if my gimmick was BLUE but the ID is red... then I would state froom the beginning that the ID they are shuffling etc is RED as though it were obvious.
That for me still allows for a consistent outcome - first the appearance of the wrong colored deck, then the correct one they expeceted. If anyone has a groovier idea would love to hear it.

So you produce the gimmick and then just say that that deck is not the one that they used, then close and open the box and say, "Oh, this is the right deck"? Or something to that effect?
That would work, but I was hoping for something better. You know, I like the way it is done in the demo- offering the spec a choice of the deck color, which gives you a 50% chance of success, but then having a nice out when the deck color is wrong. I just thought that since it was done that way in the demo, there had to be a nice way out when the wrong choice was made. Any ideas from anyone? |

Mag: "Name a colour, red or blue?"
Spec: "Blue" Mag: (open box) "And red it is!!!" (wait to be corrected) You said blue? Well...mmm...that's embarrasing! (slowly close box) Let's try something (snap fingers and open to reveal blue card box). Mag: "Name a colour, red or blue?" Spec: "Red" Mag: (open box) "And red it is!!! But what would I have done if you said blue? Well then we would have to use some real magic (snap fingers and open to reveal blue card box). |

Since drawer boxes have been available to the general public for years in many guises especially in magic sets, novelty items and promo gifts, there is no surprise in this one that the spectators wont know about - with the exception of its unique colour change effect - which should floor a few people at least initially (as with most things magical, presentation is the key). The box is mostly solid wood and the top and bottom (inner) surfaces are an MDF or compressed fine particle board with wood veneer on the outer side. The operation is smooth and just took me a few minutes to get used to it. To answer my own question above, yes the gimmick can be changed to another colour or different deck, an easy way and a not so easy way. The easy way is to very carefully cut out the front of your favoutite card box (e.g. Tally Ho, Phoenix, etc.) and glue it in position over the top of the supplied gimmick. Put a full card box in the drawer before you do this to provide a hard surface on which to press down on the gimmick. There seems to be enough free space to allow this to work, at least in mine - yours may vary. If no room, try using a colour photocopy of a cardbox instead. The not so easy way is to dismantle the box and essentially do the same as the easy method but at least you will have full access to the gimmick to remove the supplied card box image which in turn will lead to a more aesthetic look. If you go down this path you do need to be careful that you do not damage the box or mechanism. I can provide a few instructions if anyone is interested. Before anyone asks, I had to dismantle the box after my first few attempts at just using a paper image flyer over the gimmick got stuck inside the box (no I had not used any adhesive yet). My mother always used to say that I never had any toys that worked because I kept pulling them apart to find out how they worked. She was right! |

Can this be used to do a deck switch?
I've been told it can, but am not convinced. If I have one deck of boxed cards, can I put that into this device, and pull out a different deck of boxed cards? Thanks, Bart |

However, the Fantasio Deck Switcher will - but it looks cheap and nasty. If you don't NEED the cards to be cased, then Peter Scarlett's Card Box is a beautiful deck switch! |

Roger,
Thanks for the confirmation, and the recommendation. As I said, I didn't see how it was possible, or if it was possible, why there would need to be a gaff which looks like a box cover. Take Care, Bart |

If penguin don't have it you can't order it.
Look and learn you other dealers and be up front don't pretend it's in stock when it's not Just to get our money and then keep us waiting it leaves a bad taste and resentment that we have been had over!!! |

Same thing with Magic Warehouse. If they don't have it...you cannot order it.
I like this way of doing business, all online magic shops should adopt this. This way you have the option of looking elsewhere.
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

Mine does not work as well as some say theirs do. Sometimes the "extra thing" comes out a bit when I just want to show the regular deck. I make it more reliable by firmly holding the back of the box and lifting up on the end of the drawer when pulling it out. I am much happier with it now.

Looks like Penguin will have the Wonder Box next month.
"Expected back in stock January 10th. Please note this is only an estimate and actual re-stocking date may vary." http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S14785

Hello,
I wonder how long takes the reset. As I work in wedding/party's as close-up magician from table to table, I keep a old bag with my tricks on the floor. Could it be reset as I put it back to my bag? Thanks, Olivier |
