I hope they get this ready for download later tonight. I'd like to have it loaded onto my ipad before the storm comes through so I have something to watch if I lose power.

I was fortunate enough to attend the lecture. As soon as I returned home, I hopped on Penguin and purchased the download. The lecture was that strong.
Max was kind enough to share over 3 ½ hours of material and thinking. He shared many of his published effects, plus a routine he has kept to himself for the past 20 years. My favorite part was the Q&A, as he shared invaluable advice. I would have bought the lecture for the Q&A alone. As an added bonus, Max mentioned that everyone who purchases the lecture from Penguin will receive a free trial month of MACAAN. ~ Nathan |

I am watching it now.
Max starts off with an interactive card effect based on an effect by Jim Steinmeyer. Then he goes into a string of effects, including Supreme Serial Killer, Enveloped, and Unholey, all available from Max at his website. The reveal at the end is great, and Max sure knows how to string every effect together to create a moment of astonishment at the end. He then goes over his famous MACAAN, and explains it. More later after I finish. Alex

From the preview I was very unimpressed. A card trick with wayyy to much dealing? With the bills...The down-under force (or whatever it's called).. really? Why not just switch the bill? So much cleaner and not so much process then.

Hi Snm,
The effect with the dealing was Max's take on Steinmeyer's 9 Card Problem, instilling it with a Lie Detector Theme. The effect is hands-off and self working, and all of the dealing is in the context of spelling. With the bills, Max was simply providing one possible way to have the participant select a $1 bill. Without getting into details, Max made sure magicians of any level could perform the effect. During the explanation he provides another alternative which allows the spectator to simply reach in and select one of the $1 bills. In the structure of that particular routine, I don't think a switch would be effective. ~ Nathan |

Hi Alex,
During the string of effects Max also demonstrates the power of his M.B.S.! ~ Nathan |

I finally got off the fence and did a "little" shopping on Max's site a few hours ago. He called me within minutes and talked me through one of the effects I bought. That's service!
Two things pushed me into an early Christmas. Max fooled me more than a few times during his excellent lecture. And Greg Wilson's quote " I will NEVER admit I am using Max Krause's secret weapons". Wilson, one of my favorite magicians, generally doesn't use other magician's products. I have no idea what "weapons" Wilson was referring to - Max won't tell - but I'm happy with the "weapons" I bought. Thanks again Max. Great job! Later, D |

Hey guys,
I also really liked the rest of the lecture. After MACAAN Max did some other effects that I don't recall, one of them being Mental Killer, and also a 4 Ace Production with a twist....mentalists will like this. Also, the bonus effect from Ray Grismer was just awesome, and I have added that to my reportoire. Great lecture, money well spent. Alex

Was the lecture mostly a demonstration of commerical effects that have to be purchased seperately?

Max's "Mentalist's Dream Box Deluxe" is a very limited edition piece put out by Max. Only 25 will ever be made.
I have one, and reviewed it here at The Magic Café. I can't recommend it high enough. It has multiple routines for you to choose from to fit your style. It's an excellent piece that would certainly separate you from your competition. If the deluxe edition is out of your price range, Max also sells the Mentalist's Dream Box. I currently own the deluxe edition, but I did also purchase the original dream box. I chose to sell my original dream box to purchase the limited edition deluxe piece. Having owned both, you won't be disappointed with either one. They are both an extraordinary piece to add to your act and put some separation between you and your competiton. I'm sure Max would be more than happy to skype this piece with you. I wouldn't pass on Max's "Mentalist's Dream Box". |

If you saw/purchased Max's lecture, as I did, you didn't see Max perform the "Mentalist's Dream Box".
I'd recommend going to Innovative Deceptions and read up on the effect. I believe Max also has a video performing the effect. Enjoy. |

A few things really stood out for me at this lecture and they were things that didn't require you to buy anything. First was Max's offer to give away his MACAAN effect for free. Yes it is only for a limited time but you get free access to some really innovative methods for card magics Holy Grail, the Any Card At Any Number. I really thought the 9 card solution was a lot of fun if you like hands off mental magic card effects that are self working. The ace cutting thing was cool. The lie detector routine with bills doesn't require you to buy anything and the marketed effects he did perform were explained in a way that you did not have to buy anything. BUT the item that I felt was a real treat was the last effect which was taught during the Q&A. For anyone not familiar with the principle behind this effect you will learn one of the best impromptu SUPER direct clean mind reading principles in all of card magic. This principle is a secret that many magicians have worked on tho perfect and the version Max presented was a version I had not ever seen before.

Have bought a few Penguin Lectures but can't make my mind up about this one! Is anybody able to give a full review? What was the effect Max has kept under wraps for 20 years?
