Hi, I decided to finally join this wonderful forum full of great magicians and I had a question to start off my journey into magic. I have been working on my muscle pass for the past year and feel confident enough to use it for various applications. However one application I wanted to learn is to muscle pass while holding onto a coin with my pointer/ring and thumb. No matter what I try the coin stays locked onto my palm without any changes. I have the Master of Muscle Pass from Shoot Ogawa where he did a routine where he held onto a coin and first produced the second coin through a muscle pass which astounded me. I tried looking through his DVD and didn't see him show the technique that was done. Any tips would be wonderful on this difficult (to me that is heh) move.

I have been using this move since 76, when I learned it from John Cornelius. It is also in Buckley's book, Deceptions.
Though I have many applications, I am not familiar with the routine you mentioned. I did pick up a couple of coins and after 30 seconds, couldn't do it either. I can do lots of things with one , two or three coins using the MP either in on or both hands at the same time. In playing I found if I kept the second coin between my middle and index finger, it was very easy to do the m/p. Perhaps by the end of the day, week, month or year, I will be able to use the application you describe. Harris in it for the long haul..not instant results...

Ah thanks for the response Harris, I have tried clipping the coin between my middle and index and indeed it was easy to do the move, seeing this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pla......W8#t=31s the very first move he does is do a very nice almost motionless m/p as he hits the coins together. Unless I'm just imagining things and it wasn't a m/p I would actually be more relieved, but I'm still a bit weary on working on this. Well I'll continue practicing some more and hopefully finding a technique that could achieve that goal.

My magic journeys, include moving in and out of different ways to handle a situation.
Sometimes days, months and years of practice are replaced by finess, props, direction(rather than mis-direction) Harris still with palms of aluminum foil..for a lighter touch in coin magic

"teflon",....
thanks for the smile.. Reminds me of talking with John Born who quipped that he did a m/p with an aspirin. Harris still wondering about the old joke on wondering how teflon sticks to the pan...

Picking up coins I was able to do it while holding a coin with the pointer finger and thumb, but unable to do it with the ring finger. Try moving the coin closer to the thumb.

I'm still working on the muscle pass in general, so I can't imagine doing what you describe. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

I do the easy version of the muscle pass, learned it in two minutes then perfected it, but the easy version is only usefull for the coin falling up flourish, not as an actual utility move.
I can hit ceiling with the coin very easily. pm me if you want to learn more. |

Have been working on this pass for some time still and I'm able to push it out of my hand using SmileAndNod's advice by placing the coin a bit closer to the thumb and exert pressure so thank you for that. the location of the coin now however is uncomfortable because my callus has been built a bit further up where I normally classic palm. I would imagine it's just either forcing the skin in the area to get used to the coin there and allow the coin to slowly push itself out similar to how you start learning the muscle pass, or just have a different location of the coin just for this move alone. Larger coins seems to be a bit easier for this type of slight compared to using smaller coins too (I use quarters and presidential dollar coins than my morgans).

Dang, I tried this several times and can't do it. I can MP from both hands but not while holding a coin at the fingertips with my thumb. I can kind of do it if I move the coin down to my first knuckle on the first finger.

For some reason I can do it, I guess you can practice with out a coin first, just pretend you are holding something first

If you see Ponta the Smith coin video called "Sick" you have it there. he doens't exactly explain it just shows it, cause the explanations are not spoken, but if you like the muscle pass, he has a wonderful spellbound routine where one od the changes are done with the muscle pass.
You might enjoy it. Ion |
