A few questions about this if anyone that has it (or Ken) can answer...

1) S.Ward says above, "you do not need any magical props for this"...Yet Jheff's review says, "uses a fairly recently released mentalism prop that is not included"

Which is it, do you need to purchase a prop or not?

2) Can the envelope be tossed out at the end, proving that is in fact the only prediction contained?

Thanks in advance.

Anyone????

@tmoca:

1- Jheff says, "Secondly, Ken Dyne uses a fairly recently released mentalism prop that is not included (though you may already have) but he does explain other methods to accomplish the routine." He never said it is required and you can accomplish the full effect without it. Yes if you already have it, you will see how it can be incorporated into the effect but by no means it is necessary.

2- Yes!

Agreed: the prop in question is mentioned as something you *may* want to use, but it's not what I've used for performing this, and the effectiveness of the routine is in no way diminished by not using it.

I do not intend to use the prop suggested in the routine - you CAN and it is nice, but you don't have to

I have just read through E1 by Kennedy and all I can say is this guy is a genius. I absolutly love this effect, especially the bonus part which I personaly thought was pure gold. This will be going into my mentalism show and taking the place of a routine that I have had in my show for a number of years now (and that dosnt happen very often). This is not an e-book that teaches you an effect, but one that goes through a mentalism routine of a profetinal mentalist.
There is one thing that has to be made to do this routine, but it is really easy to make. There is also a prop that could be used to do a part of the effect, although another method is given if you do not have the prop. Personaly I have the prop and will be using it, although the other method is just as good.

There are many pluses about this routine for me and they include:
1- It packs small but plays really big.
2- Everything looks very fair from the audiances prespective.
3- The reveal is truly unique and it builds suspence.
4- It will fool the smarts of audiances (even fellow metalist in my opinion).

This is a solid piece and I truely recommend this e.book to all my fellow mentalist. Thank you Mr. Kennedy for sharing this with the mentalism community.

Just a quick FYI. I used a, highly modified, version of E1 in my recent tour of Switzerland & the UK. http://www.mickperrin.com/tours/view/235
Although my version of it involved video & other variations at it's core was Ken's very clever thinking.
This is a photo of me performing the effect during one of the previews last year https://www.dropbox.com/s/erqec0zshysl0sj/Mentalist-28.jpg

Is this for stage only or can it be done close-up for only one or two people? Thanks for any clarification, deciding whether want to invest in this or not.

BCE.
It's really a stage effect.
You *could* perform it close up, in theory, but I wouldn't recommend it for the following reasons:
Just to make the effect work mechanically you need a minimum of seven spectators.
I personally feel performing it for less than an absolute minimum of 30 runs the risk of the audience figuring out part of the method by chatting after the performance.
I would feel uncomfortable having some of the props within arms reach of a close up audience.

Since I had to explain it elsewhere I thought I'd describe my version of the effect here:

In my version a (genuinely) random spectator has to implant the word in the envelope by means of "amateur dramatics".
She & I dress in Sherlock Holmes costumes, I give her a script and we play out a "Victorian murder mystery" which is a actually a three character comedy sketch - Me, the spectator and me again playing another character prerecorded on video and projected on the big screen (The character interacts with both me and the spectator looking from side to side to address each of and "reacting" to the dialogue.

At the end of the sketch the entire audience, who have each been given a small bag of props that they have to use during various effects in the show (including one where the entire audience end up wearing tin foil on their heads - see attached photo http://s1278.photobucket.com/user/Doug_S......jpg.html ) write down the first word that pops into their heads on a card in their bag of props. The spectator selects six of them, their cards are collected.
The spectator reads each of the cards to herself, declares that they are all different.
I tell her to select just one without telling me what it is.
She closes her eyes and stands downstage.
I take the word out of the envelope so that the audience can see it.
I ask her to shout out the word she chose - It's the word in the envelope.
THEN...........
Then I replay the video pointing out where in the script and the visuals the word was implanted. Smile

I'm really sad the tour's over. It's one of my all time favourite effects and I only got to perform it 64 times
