I already have a double-sided Santa / Christmas Tree set of four blocks, that you put into a chimney-decorated tube.
I know there is a skeleton version of this trick, but am looking for others. I remember looking a few years ago and a new company had released pirate versions etc. I think they had a dealers table at Kidabra. Can anybody help??

I have a version from many years ago made of a Rooster.
I think it came from Hank Lee. You may be able to get one if you ask in the buying and trading section. I think it was called Brooster the Rooster. It is not double sided however.
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

This year I'll be using "Forgetful Frosty" (Fairchild Magic) for my opening routine (after a warm-up). A note about "Forgetful Freddie" routines: although the effect isn't really very magical, kids really love the silliness of the character losing his head, and the daft stories that go along with the routines.
I also have the brilliant Christmas Tree from Practical Magic, in which the star at the top of the tree vanishes, only to reappear, and all the lights on the tree start flashing. I believe this is no longer available, which is a great shame. I always like to put them near the start of a show, because they get laughs, but not gasps. Apart from the Christmas Tree, which makes sense as a finale. I've also bought the beautiful Christmas Santa Silk new from Practical Magic: http://www.practical-magic.com/index.php......temid=26 I'll use this in future for a kicker ending of "Santa's Suit" (also available from Practical Magic). "Big Red Nose" is also an excellent early effect for Christmas shows (Samuel Patrick Smith), which I highly recommend. And the Christmas Stocking Change Bag, and Tommy James' Christmas Wand are super products. Lastly, the foam Christmas Tree and Snowman from Peachey Keane are perfect for dove pan routines. All these for kids up to 6 years old, especially good for pre-schools. These are the only products which spring to mind as exceptional for Christmas shows - as well as the myriad versions of "Snowstorm in China", which can be purchased for any amount from $10 to thousands. I wish there was a really strong effect using Christmas presents - but of course, it's a simple matter to wrap up a production box of some kind to look like a Christmas present, and make something really cool appear. Does anyone have any other recommendations for Christmas routines and props? |

Ralph the Moose from Elmwood Magic (their exclusive) seems like a great one. I am looking forward to trying it this year. Th7ere's also "Frankie the Snowman" blendo silks (P & G Silks, is it?) I had and sold the Letter from Santa rabbit appearance mail box by Jay Leslie, which was a good one (rabbit died, unfortunately).
Also, there is a rabbit from gift box appearance (which can also be used to appear other items) called "Happy Times" which is really good. And for the Hannukah story, you can use a clay lotta pot and talk about how the oil did not burn out (use water as oil) and that the lights kept burning even after they should have gone out; thus the "miracle." I'm partial to Halloween for my seasonal tricks, but these are some good holiday options. |

I forgot to mention "Santa, the Monkey and the Chimney" by Tommy James, which caused a riot in my shows last year, and "There's only ONE Santa" (another one from Practical Magic), this is a VERY strong opener for any Christmas magic show, and one of the very few that plays well for ALL ages.
I like Jay Leslie's mail box, but unfortunately, this style of mail box is almost unknown in the UK, we all have a flap in our front door for the mailman to post our Christmas cards in. |

BTW, themagiciansapprentice, I know you were asking about themed "Skeleton in the Closet" / "Santa Stuck in the Chimney" tricks. (In a way, ABC Blocks and Strat-O-Spheres are related.)
I led you to Giggle Magic, which has a dental version, pirate version, etc. It looks like this thread has now taken a different direction, with people talking about any Christmas magic trick (perhaps a better topic for a new thread). But back on the topic of "Skeleton in the Closet" / "Santa Stuck in the Chimney", Fairchild Magic makes a very deluxe version, shown here: http://www.fairchildmagic.com/fairchild_magic_070.htm And of course, Wack-O Magic makes this version: http://www.wackomagic.com/wackomagic/Mismade_monster.html - Donald

Donald - of course, conversations take turns here and there, and after all, it makes these threads even more interesting historically, because you just never know what you might find.
There have already been countless threads about Christmas effects, in which all of these have been previously mentioned. But I might add that "Cube-A-Libre" is essentially the same effect as "Santa in the Chimney", at least as for the spectator. Of course, this one is MUCH more magical and astonishing. Mumblemore - it's interesting to me that you concentrate more on Hallowe'en for your seasonal shows - I've done several this week, but it's rare to get many bookings for these shows. Christmas, on the other hand, is very busy, with shows throughout December, and even in November and early January (seems odd, doing a Christmas show after it's all over). Trick-or-treating is becoming very popular here. It was unheard of when I was a child. I asked all my audiences to raise their hands if they were trick-or-treating this year, and about 60% of kids apparently now do this in the UK. There are a lot of laughs to be had, finding out who got the most candies, and who has already eaten the most! One little girl had a "stash bag" (her words) of candies, around her waist. Naturally, I wanted to steal her candies, and she became very protective...before offering me one of her least favourites....don't you love it? |
