I know I probably shouldn't jump the gun here but, as I haven't been contacted by anyone from 'Inside Magic' or by Mark Wong himself, I'm going to have to go out on a limb and say that 'Sucker Peep' is a TOTAL RIP OFF of my effect 'Pack of Lies'. Please consider the following...
This DVD - 'Sucker Peep' - has just recently been released as a stand alone DVD. Watch the demo: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S14813 This effect - 'Pack of Lies' - was released first in my Fandango booklet in 2007 and more recently (sometime last year) as a video download. Watch the demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFH0syXgiMo Can anyone understand why alarm bells are ringing? I mean, there is NO WAY that the similarities between the two effects are coincidence so, even if the method is different (which, other than maybe he switches the box at some point, I just can't see) then I should have been contacted because nearly every detail of the performance and presentation are identical! (Although, the plot of the trick actually belongs to Richard Kaufmann from a trick of his that was the inspiration for 'Pack of Lies'. I've always given Richard credit for this.) Here's my blurb: You have a card selected and returned to the pack which is then locked inside the card case. Holding the case to your head you suddenly announce the name of the selection! This strange feat is repeated before the magician comes clean, revealing a large hole in the back of the box through which the chosen card is peeked! The feat is then repeated a third time and just when the spectators think you must be using the hole in the case again - a snap of your fingers - THE HOLE IS GONE AND THE BOX MAY BE EXAMINED! Here's the blurb for 'Sucker Peep' A card is selected from a thoroughly mixed deck. It is then randomly lost and the deck is mixed. The deck is then replaced into the card box. In spite of this, the magician names the card out loud. Offering to explain its modus operandi, the spectator's attention is drawn to a hole cut on the card case where the index corner should be, which makes it convenient for the magician to peep at the selected card provided. Of course, if one were to know how to bring the selected card to the bottom. The magician offers to show the spectator how this can be accomplished. The spectator again selects a random card and loses it into the deck. The magicians proceeds to do a mini-expose on how to bring the selected card to the bottom or face of the deck. The cards are then replaced into the card box. The selected card is named just like before. The magician remarks that if the card case is remotely suspected all that's to be done is to vanish the 'hole'. The spectator smiles knowingly as he grabs the card case but is surprised to find the hole now missing! I've seen some of my ideas quite liberally 'borrowed' before without credit but this is just obscene! Again, even if the method is different, there are just too many similarities for this to have been released without at least informing me first. Anyone know how to get in touch with Mark Wong or 'Inside Magic'? Dave.

Looks like blatant thievery from Mr Forrest.
This is just plain wrong and the copy should be removed from the market. |

Yeah. interestingly the demo does not show the routine. But from the description, it's exactly the same effect. And I can't imagine the method is much different.

Have to just point out here that while I have linked to the Penguin demo I am not singling them out. They are one of MANY companies stocking this DVD. So, just to be clear: NOT ANYTHING TO DO WITH PENGUIN...or any other dealer for that matter. This lies solely at the feet of Mark Wong and 'Inside Magic', the production company.
Dave.

Just to clarify.
First of all, you claim to have a trick "Pack of Lies" released in 2007. Just to let you know that Sucker Peep has been created in a booklet form since 2006 by another of our company, J & J Magic. It was sold in Singapore since 2006. Now, you are too quick to judge that we stole your idea and want to withdraw the product from the shelf. However, this is not true and we had this product long before you have released your trick "Pack of Lies". Anyway, I have never seen your trick before. |

Have you bought the DVD yet? Guess not...
I watched your trailer and it is not the same as ours. First of all, Sucker Peep has 2 different routines for this trick. And the next thing, the hole in the box for Sucker Peep is real and can be examined. |

Inside Magic Productions, did you just join Magic Café today to get on this thread and / or to promote your recent relase of the stand alone DVD? Thanks.
Something sure does seem fishy here, and I feel for Mr. Forrest. Regards, Mike |

I don't see a problem with them joining today in order to respond to this thread. Why wouldn't they?
But yeah, the two tricks look very similar and hopefully something can be worked out. |

You could have the hole examined in 'Pack of Lies' too...if you switched the box. And, what difference does it make how many routines you provide??? There are just FAR too many similarities for this to be a coincidence. The ad copy, the routine, the premise - they're all IDENTICAL! My effect lays hidden in a booklet for over 5 years. Then, it becomes a video download and within twelve months your DVD appears! Truly amazing! And, wouldn't you believe it, now you tell me 'Sucker Peep' was already published in printed form just ONE CONVENIENT YEAR prior to my first publishing it. I suppose now you're going to provide some hastily typed PDF with the year 2006 on it, right? Dave.

Inside Magic say it was published in 2006 by J&J Magi. I think Dave should pipe down a little until the facts are established properly.
If it is proved that the routine wasn't actually published in 2006 then Dave has the right to go ballistic. If tempers aren't contained then this 'hole' thing could quite easily spiral out of control. That is not helpful.
