My background in electronics began strictly as a hobbyist. My father encouraged me to learn and let me set up my own electronics and chemistry lab in our basement. I was the first kid on the block to make gunpowder and nearly blow my self up with a battery and a piece of nichrome wire.

As to using electronics in magic, it never occurred to me until I had been performing Max Maven's Kurotsuke for several months. While Max's method is great and lets you perform the effect impromptu, I decided I did not like the ending and started to look for other methods. Firstly, I new I would never perform the effect impromptu so I did not mind the idea of using gimmicks. Secondly, I set some requirements for myself, namely I did not want to touch the stones or the bag; I wanted the participants to pass the bag around and I wanted to know for certain where the target stone was at all times. I had not tinkered with electronics for years but it all came rushing back when the notion of using an RF transmitter hit me. Interestingly, when I was looking for an established company to help me market my new divice, I called Peter Nardi of Alakazam. He told me that someone had recently been in his shop looking for a way to perform the effect with the requirements I just mentioned and Peter had told him it was not possible (and it wasn't at the time). When I mentioned that I had found a way to do exactly that, he was -- to say the least -- interested.

After the success of Equinox, I realized that electronics, kept as simple as possible and made sophisticated only when absolutely necessary, were an excellent element to consider when looking for methods that provide a significant theatrical advantage. Cheers.

What influenced you to involve electronics in magic effects!? Also, what background do you have in electronics!? Thanks for taking out the time, in taking part in these discussions!
