Hi,
I will be having a performance at school at about next year may, and I really would like to use quick change as a part of my act. I'm going to use the quick change only ONCE in my act and not use it over and over again. Do you happen to know where I could learn how to do the quick change? any DVDs or Books? Also, I have seen somewhere where they were selling custom made quick change costumes to people. Does this mean that I CANNOT make any quick change costumes myself? Because I need to make one myself since I need a very specific costume. Also I don't have too much money to custumize the costumes. Thank you. |

The Best quick change books for men are:
-Quick change transformation, part 1 by Sos & Victoria http://www.sosmagic.com/ - QUICK CHANGE - rapid costume changes for men by Lex Schoppi http://www.lexschoppimagic.com/epages/62......glish%22 or the German version ;-) http://www.lexschoppimagic.com/epages/62......erman%22 - Time for a change by Lee Alex http://www.leealexmagic.com/#!__page-5 Lee Alex also sell the Magna-seams which are great for your needs. (available at your favorite magic shop ;-) ) Quick changes are not as easy as they look! Finding the right fabric & having a good cosume made are very important so don't go for cheap as it will not work and look badly. I hope this info helps you. |

You could also check out Calen Morelli's Dresscode from Theory 11. Sounds like it may fit your budget.

I agree with M Sini. If all you are doing is ONE change, then Dresscode is perfect! Easy to do, and the costume may not cost you a thing (depending on what is currently in your closet/drawer).
Although...you mentioned the costume must be sepcific...so this may not work. Depending on the costume, the principle might be able to be adapted, however.

One time use, specific costume, low cost and quick change does not sound like it will all come together for you. Good luck.

Thank you guys so much!
I already use dresscode in my performances but in this act my entire costume should change.. so I think quick change would be the perfect one. Oh and when I was saying that I don't have much money, I was telling you that I can't use 700$ for one costume. For me it seemed like a huge rip off.. I thought the price was due to the "customizing", and I was saying that I can't give that much for what I can make myself (if possible) Anyways, thank you all very much! |

That is where you will find some of your biggest roadblocks in magic. The Cost......Since magic is such a niche market you will not find good items on the cheap. Yes, you can find cheap props, but in the end you will regret it. There are many of us here who wished they new better when they started. To be honest 700 dollars is not expensive at all when looking at a stage effect. Given your budget I would definitely purchase one of the books recommended above. You have a lot of time before your performance so you can tweak and retweak your costume repeatedly untill you get it perfect. A lot of guys don't have the time or the patience to do that themselves. Best of luck and let us know how it all goes!!

How about my way of presenting the Bathrobe Costume Change as the popular boxer Manny Pacman Pacquiao:

I was telling you that I can't use 700$ for one costume. For me it seemed like a huge rip off.. $700.00 USD is a lot of money I have to agree, however how can you call this a "rip off". Check out the pricing of tailored suits in the US: http://www.ehow.com/info_8696141_much-su......ost.html Anything from $400.00 to $10,000 USD (and I suspect above this price, depending where you go). The price is all relative to the user. A professional will get their money back in one performance, but I understand you are wanting the quick change for a school performance. As has been mentioned above the DVD "Time for a Change?" explains different costumes that you can make yourself, some use the "Magna Seam" gimmick which is sold ready prepared to install in your own costumes. http://magic2wear.myshopify.com/ The most important piece of advice I can give you is to plan exactly what you want to do before you purchase any fabric or ready costumes to transform into quick change. Look at your whole performance, where you will perform, what cover you will use to make the change, will the change be perofmred solo or with an assistant, what is happening before and after the change, should the change be self-contained (nothing thrown away) or a tear away costume etc. etc. Careful planning will save you a lot of time, money and stress in the long run! |

LeeAlex// Sorry, I take my words back
It is not a rip off, but as a student it is a huge money. Since my quick change doesn't have to be that "quick", I might just use dress code and take of my outer pants hidden Thank you again |

No need for the apology bremenkid!!
My advice to you would be perform with the tools which make you a master. Just perform Dresscode and forget about the trouser change. On stage 3 secs is percieved as three minutes, so if you are not going to do a quick change, forget about the pants. Your "slow" change will be seen for what it is, and add nothing to your performance. Ever heard the expression "Less is more!" ? |
