I was approached by Lindsay Samakow -- with the following message ... this is a worthy cause for DC area magicians if they can make it. You'll read (sadly) about children and families, many of whom have no heathcare insurance - that rely so much on charitable contributions ... this time, they ask for your help in performing/donating a bit of magic. Yet another reason to consider the importance of a national "universal" health care plan.
First, let me introduce myself - my name is Lindsay Samakow, and I am the Entertainment Coordinator for the Second Annual DC Dance Marathon, a small non-profit supporting the Children's National Medical Center. This event is being held in just a few weeks, where we will stand for 13.1 hours for the children who can not. Many of these children's families can not afford any sort of health care but are not turned away because of that - these donations cover those costs. 100% of every dollar raised for DC Dance Marathon directly benefits Children's National Medical Center, our local Children's Miracle Network Hospital. Because we are a non-profit, we are unfortunately unable to compensate anyone monetarily. That being said, anyone who would be willing to perform would technically be considered a "sponsor" for donating in-kind services, and would receive: • Name on event welcome banner (at your sponsor level) • Name on event T-shirt (at your sponsor level)** • Name on the DC*DM website sponsor page I would really appreciate if you could pass this on to anyone in your organization who you think maybe interested in performing. Anything from face painters, to jugglers, balloon making clowns - anything and everything I would LOVE! This event is for kids, so the more, the merrier! Here are the details: WHEN: Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. *We would only need people for blocks of time (depending on the nature of the performance - but each performer would definitely not need to be there for more than 1 hour during the day, unless they wanted to!) WHERE: FHI360’s Academy Hall 1875 Connecticut Ave NW Washington, DC 20009 (Metro Accessible: Dupont Circle) WHAT: What is the DC Dance Marathon all about? Adopted from the trend sweeping college campuses, 20 and 30-somethings across the country are raising money for their local Children's Miracle Network Hospital and hosting their very own Dance Marathon. In DC, we support the kids and families at Children’s National Medical Center. On November 17, we’ll stay on our feet for 13.1 hours while we hang out with patients and their families, dance, play games and celebrate the money raised for Children’s National. Why stay on your feet for that long, you ask? To quote the first Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Dance Marathon mission statement: "We dance for those who can't." It is this solidarity and connection with the cause that makes Dance Marathon an event unlike any other. I have attached an explanation of the event, a pdf flyer for you to send to people, as well as sponsorship level sheet. Please don't hesitate to call or email me with any questions. Thank you so much, in advance, for your help with this! Lindsay Samakow |Entertainment Director 301.802.6225 l entertainment@dcdancemarathon.com |http://www.dcdancemarathon.com |
