I see nothing wrong with posting as many reviews on this forum as you like. You can tell by the topic what it is. If you don't want to read it you don't have to open it.

Hi, I am not sure how many members there are in the Café but if everone just put up one or two of these I am sure we would be flooded , phil

Wouldn't that be a good thing?

hi,
why to me its just a waste of space , more topics to trundle through to find some decent ones.
I know posting these things is good from a SEO view point for google ect.
but I see little benifit in such posts to other members

Well Phil, it sounds like that both you and Ryan are alone in your thoughts here.

Yes, I know this is good for SEO but I don't post for that reason. I think there is so much negativity that is thrown around on the Café' here that it's nice to have something positive posted from time to time. It saddens me when folks such as you and Ryan feel the need to rain on it. I for one search for stuff like this b/c I enjoy hearing of others success. Reading stuff like this brings me great joy and inspires me to be a better performer.

If you don't agree then fine. You can simply ignore it and read something else...

Christopher- glad to hear your still getting good reviews.

so lets talk about this posting a review thing for a moment if I can.

so the two guys say that this is a waste of space to mention your recent good review.
(by the way the Café does of the latest and greatest section here too.)

but I understand you putting it here in little darlings as this is where your other Café friends will see it.

so here is the question open to any one.

first we all agree that when we find a review or get a review or win an award - were happy and we want to share it. its good news.

will some take it the wrong way - obviously yes.

but the question then is how do we share with our Café friends the good news? and what is ok to share.

I mean I did post on my FB fan page all sorts of good stuff about me winning first place in a recent stage magic contest and being
awarded close up magician of the year by the society of american magicians assembly #4 (one of the oldest and most respected assemblies in SAM)

but I never posted it here as I was afraid of having some people jump on my excitement and take it all the wrong way. why do some magicians do that?

are you jealous are you just looking to put others down are you bummed that your not getting that kind of stuff?

really I am being sincere here.

I mean any one that has read a post from Christopher Lyle knows that pretty much he is a nice guy and dose good work and post a full range of things from reviews to awesome ideas to cool prop cases (and where to get them) I mean its not like he has 15 post and 14 of them are all about HIM.

so what is the real reason for disliking his post. or any one else that post some thing great about their show.

what if Jeff McBride posted he won some big award or that David Copperfield called him and congratulated him on something would we take that the wrong way
I fear it is the unknown. you must not know Christopher and you did not take the time to get to know him and that is your lost.

as chris pointed out if you don't care then don't post.

I am just really wondering why this happens with magicians. I see it all the time in real life meaning not on the internet. I fear telling my magic friends that I won an award or that I was asked to perform some where really special or with another famous magician.

and I should not have to have those fears.

- Christopher I am so sorry if I have over stepped my bounds here but I just recently went thru some tuff times with some magicians not taking the time to find out the facts and getting to know me and it just really hurt. what was worse is that they were wrong on all accounts but chose to not find the facts out first. so I just was taken a back with some having a gripe with your good news.

magically yours

sam

ps I also won 2nd place from IBM woo hoo! but you did not hear it from me:)

This is for Sam:

Sam when is the last time that you have seen personally a Well Known Magician put their Awards or Posted an Article on a Semi-Public Forum? Yes, this is something that you can post on your Facebook Page but I do not believe that is is for the Café'. WHY, because there are way to many people who cannot stand other peoples success and it just is not necessary to post on the Café'.

David Copperfield, Jeff McBride, Criss Angel, Nathan Burton, Lance Burton, Kevin James, Tom Burgoon, etc. I have never seen these people post such an item in a forum. Awards and Articles mean nothing to the average/GREAT performer. If you are a humble person I do not see any reason to post such item except on your own Personal Page on FB. I have won several awards and trophies and I do not even have them listed on my FB Page. My performance at my shows are good enough for me and my clients, as most of my work is from past client referals.

Did Christopher put this up to Brag, Show off? I will leave my opinion out as it is just an opinion.

Geez...I'm so sick of this place. Only on here can someone post something positive and people **** all over it. I think I'm finally done. Sick of wasting my time with a bunch of ego freaks who have nothing better to do with their time than bully others bc their egos are to fragile to read a success story of someone else. This is why I dislike most magicians. Some brotherhood....

This is getting silly.

I have no problem with people posting whatever they like on forums, but if you are going to make an obvious vanity post then you can expect a little flak. I try to keep my reviews on my Facebook fan page as I really have no interest in anyone here reading them. After all, none of you people are my clients!

I think it's a totally different matter if you want to share news about awards you've won or prestigious jobs you've been booked for. As for reviews and testimonials - many of us are full time pros who receive accolades on a regular basis. I couldn't imagine why anyone would want to read mine.

However, if people do enjoy reading them, maybe the answer is to start a sticky post at the top where we all post our latest reviews.

The mystery to me is that what Christopher posted isn't actually a review, but a publicity piece promoting events at a shopping mall at which he was booked - they'd hardly be negative, would they? I don't understand why it would merit inclusion here, unless of course it was a sneaky way to boost his SEO Smile

Wow,

Actually when I first read the post I thought Christopher was commenting on the fact that this review was found randomly on the internet. I took it as a lesson that while everyone may have web sites, twitters and facebook pages, Clients can and do post reviews and such (good or bad) on a multitude of sites on the web.

Maybe I read too much into it. But, I think I learned something.

Gogle yourself often to find out what people really think of you.

But, what do I know, I'm just a hobbiest trying to absorb enough to maybe make a go of it myself someday.

Rodney - true most of those big names wont post it themselves but some one will post it about them

and although this is a semi open to the public site - really it is also a bunch of magic friends from around the globe who before the Café never knew each other. so this is kind of like a magic FB sorta. I see all the time well known magicians and not so well known post things like
hey I am going to be at the magic castle again.
or
ill be in vegas performing at the so and so casino

stuff like that.

ihave even seen others post a review or two in the past.

any who sorry this has turned in to such a fiasco - I don't think chris was trying to do anything more then post some thing he found.

have a good one all!

As I said - if you look at the piece in question, it's a publicity piece from a shopping mall describing events they had booked this year. It isn't a review.

Haha you got me there I guess!! I'll unashamedly admit that I do that to market my products to magicians and to boost my SEO. I tend not to start vanity threads, but maybe you can't see the distinction.

I did a great show a week ago, and got a lovely compliment after it. It lifted my heart. I almost came on here and shared it. I am glad now that I didn't.
