So for a few years now, like many of you I have been on a ring flight frenzy, I have tried just about all of them and finally landed on one I felt was nearly perfect, the "Fly-Ring" by Mark Leveridge, here is why, it is so very easy to do, and so very simple in construction, plus you get ring/string instruction, the key case has no reel, and I use my back pocket, loading is super fast and easy,no fumbling and after 2 minutes with it, I got it down.
The only negative is, the part that is gimmicked can break if you sit on it, it has not yet happened to me, but if it does, it’s very easy to fix. My 2 cents. What is your favorite and why ? |

Looks nice -- is there a US dealer?

I don't think there is a US dealer, but his shipping to me was very fast and not expensive.

Way out of date for me. I don't like the old key ring holder and also it looks like you have to have a jacket. It just don't look clean to me.

I must disagree that it will break in the real sense of the word. I had mine for years, and it never broke or became loose. This is probably the fastest and easiest Ring Flite that has ever been made. It is direct and fast in working. As far as being an old ring holder, acutally they call them ring cases, it is by far old. If it was old, he could not supply it at such a great price. Maybe you meant it does not fit your tastes, that is fine, you are the one missing out on a great prop. To add, I like Mark's routine and handling as well. This is a real world magic item, not something you will look at and put in a drawer the next day. |

As I stated in my original post, I use mine in my back pocket, still never broken or came loose and not once has anyone said, boy that looks like an old key case, it's all about the magic, not the prop, I guess the linking rings should not be used by young hip magi, they are old.
Seriously, if your thinking of trying a ring flight, this is fantastic, it's the reactions that I love to see, Dave |

Mark puts out some good magic that often has been simplified down to it's basics. This often means the construction of his routines and effects are clean and direct and the props he uses are often simple and uncomplicated.
I think Mark has come up with a solution that, in magic terms, is a very obvious solution to accomplishing the effect. I certainly had thought of this as a possible route to go with this effect long before Mark first put Fly-Ring out and I'm sure many others have done so too. Of course Mark actually did put it out and worked out all the issues and handling details and has ended up with a good routine and product. There is in Marks routine one, not weakness, but important moment where I would prefer to be 'clean' when you are not. This isn't necessarily a problem but I think versions of this effect in which you are clean at this point do offer something extra in terms of the look and impression left in the audience's minds. Dave Bonsell's Ring flight Revolution is probably the best made and best disguised version of all those out there allows for the clean and open handling that Mark's misses out on by virtue of having simplified the mechanics. Which version an individual performer finds suits them better will vary depending on specific individual proclivities. Personally I'd spend the extra money on Ring Flight Revolution but that doesn't mean Mark's Fly-Ring isn't a workable alternate way of doing this effect.

Sea, I have RFR and agree it is pretty good, there is a huge price difference to start, and there is a noise issue in a quiet environment and then you have the higher risk of flashing, there is no perfect solution, but if a reel is what you want, RFR is the very best.

I like Nic Einhorns Ring Flight. I personally don't like reel based methods as I've never been comfortable with the attaching of the ring. I have my keys on Nics gimmick all the time so it's pretty much impromptu.
The handling is fab. The appearance of the ring onto the key fob is very visual and magical and always gets great reactions. OK it's not totally self working like the reel versions but it is my preference.

Oh yeah it also is cheap and you don't need to wear a jacket!

Richard Mark's "Ringon Ringon" was one of my favorite back in the 1978. Richard Marks was a magician who lived in Florida and Supreme Magic in England marketed his ring to keycase. It was one of the best in my opinion. It could not be immediately repeated, but as it was a complete routine including a shoe lace vanish.
Mark Leveridge's is a nice routine as well. The above 2 are the ones I did the most in my close-up days. |

Ring flight Revolution is one of my workhorses,I have routine with it that gets fantastic reactions.
I use it pretty much every time I perform & I think it is absolutely perfect. In my opinion, anything using a key case doesn't make any sense, RFR is pretty much invisible. Mike |

Mike, what about a key case makes no sense?

I have used a Key Case all my life, I guess it shows the type of person one is. There are some that don't care and carry loose keys, there are those use a key ring, or those keys on a retract reel, then I love the ones that think is it the wife's responsibility to carry their keys and wallets in their purse. But is the ones that don't carry any keys at all, that will not be able to do Ring Flite.
That would be a good routine. Vanish the ring and have the "Keeper Of The Keys", the wife walk in the door and hand the spectator the husbands keys, and find ring attached to them. |

Very true. I was watching another magician at a business luncheon the other day to a ring flight to key case. A fellow at my table literally whispered, "was that a 'magic case'?". A key case is as relavent as a classic change bag in my opinion.

Mike, not so fast, not long ago in Baltimore, I did the effect and a guy pulled out his nearly identical key case and said, Can you do that with mine, although stunned for a second, he just laughed and said he was kidding, but I do understand your point it is not very common as it once was, but it is still in use by some, and again , it's all about the magic, we try to be pure but in some cases, no pun intended, we just cannot, I bet we all have some gimmick we use that does not appear to be common, dove pan, square circle, egg bag the list goes on. But please do not think I questioned you to challenge you , I really did not, I think your thoughts are very valid and I love the discussion, and when I'm wrong or proven wrong, I can only learn from it, a great thing to have all of you here to help me and everyone,

Of course the key ring holder should fit you, as a person. If you perform Ring Flight Revolution with a high priced automobile key fob, and then go out and get in a beat up old truck, I think they will consider the same thing. Same goes for clothing, pull out a Cadallic key fob and you are dressed in an old shirt, torn jeans, and flip flops, it just does not fit.
You guys kill me in your idea of what is going on in the real world. Such broad statements, labeling everyone. |

Reading this forum some would agree that a key case is to old school. That is all I was saying. I never did say anything about it breaking. Were did you come up with that? I am sure its well made and some love it and use it alot. Just not for me.
