I am a senior in high school and it is getting to be that time when I must choose which college to go to. I have applied to colleges which I believe will help me in my already-established magic business in my home town. I have two options:
1) I can go to a college far from home, but which has a specific major that I am interested in (Arts and Entertainment Management). Going here would make me restart my magic business near the college and would have to manage shows between my college and going home. Going here would get me a more specific education, but not as much real-world experience. 2) I could go to a college right by my home (but living on-campus), but which only has general majors I'm interested in (Management, marketing, etc.). I wouldn't have to go through the time of re-establishing my business. I wouldn't get the specific education I was looking for, but I would get more real-world experience. Which option do you think would be best? I am leaning towards going to the college close to home so that I could self-educate myself through real-world experience. But I need others' opinions. |

"but I would get more real-world experience. "
If this is what you desire, than you have your answer. For me, it would depend on what states/cities. "Starting over" in a "bigger and more economical powerful city" might be better in long run depending on your goals. Also, really you are not "starting over," since you have the knowledge from your prev business, look at it as strengthening yourself in a new area and rebuilding yourself in a more powerful and sufficient manner.

Either one will give you "real world experience." Not knowing where you are or where the college is located we can't really help you in this decision. However, by going to school far from home you not only will get the education that you really want, but you will be forced to rebuild your entertainment business. You did it once, you can do that again. The result is learning what YOU CAN DO by forcing yourself into an uncomfortable position.
By staying near home you still have your existing business to rely on while learning. Choice is yours, think hard about it. |
