In addition to the Illusionist, has "the Prestiege" been mentioned yet on this post?
I am about to rent it for the weekend. I believe I will enjoy it? Any comments?

Hi Will,
I did enjoy watching the presige, but found several key elements flawed. My comments can be found onthe following thread, down towards th ebottom of the page: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......tart=120 For those interested, this particualr thread shows a slew of reviews on both the Illusionist and the Prestige. Best regards. Jonathan

...speaking about "flawed"...
... what I meant to say was, "...I did enjoy the "Prestige"..." My apologies for the typos.

There will be at least a couple of new movies about magic and magicians later this year. One will be about Houdini.

I was reading my collected Annemann's "Jinx" and noticed his discussion of "Miracles for Sale" (1939) (previously mentioned in this thread). Taken from a story by magician/writer Clayton Rawson, and directed by Tod Browning ("Freaks", "Dracula", others), it looks interesting. Surprisingly (for a low demand film) it's available from Warner Brothers Archive, a division that produces on-demand DVDs of movies that may not warrant a general pressing (I guess):

The Illusionist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Illusionist_(2006_film)) was quite a good film in my opinion. If you want a movie about gambling scams, go for The Sting.

An animated film by the same name... The Illusionist.
Enchanting and poetic. Incredibly, almost no words are spoken for full detail and review, click onto: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Illusionist_%282010_film%29 (2010) For a look at the promo trailer click onto: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHVG1JmbU30 Enjoy! Jonathan

"Terror Train" (Copperfield 1980) was a Canadian govt. funded film (through grants etc.) Much of the casting was done here in Montreal, and actually the agency sent me the script and I read for the part. They also seemed interested as to what materials I could bring to the production also.
Too bad I had not "lost" the script in my files, it would have been a fun collectible to have. B

Perhaps this was already mentioned eariier in this thread...
I just read this on an older (Feb. 2011) CNN.com posting: Charles McDougall has signed on to direct the comedy Burt Wonderstone. The film stars Steve Carell as a Las Vegas magician who must rediscover his mojo in order to compete with a younger rival. Chad Kultgen penned the original script, and John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Horrible Bosses) wrote the current draft. THR reports that the film is set to shoot this fall. Before conjuring up Wonderstone, Carell will shoot Great Hope Springs with Meryl Streep. Does anyone happen to have a more recent update about this planned movie? With Carell in it there is surely going to be an element of "fun". Jonathan

There's an Award Winning documentary out now on Showtime, and soon to be out on Netflix and (hopefully) iTunes called Make Believe. It was the winner of the 2010 LA Film Festival for Best Documentary and it took the Audience Award at the Austin Film Festival. Make Believe follows six teen magicians as they prepare to compete at the World Magic Seminar held annually in Las Vegas for the title of World Teen Champion.
"`Make Believe’ is a charming, affectionate and often elegantly executed study...it’s a kind of personal heroism that helmer J. Clay Tweel captures in this Los Angeles Film Festival jury prizewinner...Production values are superb...” -Variety http://www.variety.com/review/VE11179430......=31&cs=1 For More info, check out http://www.makebelievefilm.com See the trailer here: http://makebelievefilm.com/trailer.html -Bill
