I saw a preview of this movie today when I took my kids to see Wreck it Ralph. It looks real good. James Franco is a dubious magician who becomes the ruler of OZ

Probably I will go see it, I am an OZ nut. However, the play "Wicked" was so fantastic, I may pass just cause of that...

Yeah, it'll be cool to watch, but nowhere near as good as the play or original movie.

With the drought of original ideas from Hollywood writers, combined with the insatiable need for producers to take a classic, rewrite it using inane 21st century references, only for the money, it is refreashing to see some one trying to entertain folks with their imagination and story telling skills.
I applaud the effort, and look forward to seeing the whole effort.

Looks great. It'll go on the cinema list (which basically means I'll see it on DVD in about 2 years )

(I'm popping an older thread back to the top.)
"Oz the Great and Powerful" was a pretty good movie, and is doing very well at the box office. I saw it a couple of nights ago in 3D. One magic scene in it, that I found hard to believe, was when the magician came out of the water all drenched, and yet produced a bone dry feather flower bouquet for the lady. Still, it was some nice looking flowers... not a cheap bouquet. There are a few scenes of magic tricks. One other thing that was interesting was that the movie had a cameo by Bruce Campbell in it. I did a little bit of checking, and discovered that Bruce also had a cameo as different characters in the each of the movies in the Spiderman Trilogy (Sam Raimi directed). Then I found out that Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi have a friendship going back many years, and Bruce has been in several of the movies that Sam has directed (9 or so). For those that like trivia. - Donald

So... a magician magically produces a bouquet of flowers and you are amazed that they are not wet?
(Sigh... only a magician would think like that...)

Yup, I thought that (because I'm a magician). Although, my wife didn't think that.
Still, his feather flowers paled in comparison to the real flowers in Oz. - Donald

Good movie. Not great, but good. The monkey filled the cuteness role (a la the Puss 'n Boots smile from the 'Shrek' movies) and the china doll girl stole my heart (I've got 2 daughters, what can I say? )
Most enjoyable section for me was the final confrontation "battle" in Oz.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".
