I was sitting here reminiscing about my life in performance, and thinking back I can attribute a lot of how I present my performance in bizarre and mentalism to 2 people.... Ron Dayton and Lee Earl. both of whom have touched me in many ways.
I am not talking about books or set routines but rather how they go about taking a routine and wringing out the most emotional responses possible. they do not present it like tricks or stunts but a shared journey. they offer a small peek into their very souls to those that are willing to join them. 2 routines of note that prove the point are restored by Ron Dayton (KOTAH) the musing box by Lea Earl both of these routines when presented by these masters of the kraft will leave no dry eye in the theater. who would you say were the most influential on your personal presentation style? and why? |

When I realized it was more about performance than technique, I met Max Maven. And, when I realized that my performance had to mean something, Eugene Burger arrived.
"When the student is ready, the teacher will appear"
"I've always been mental, I'm sure of it" Boris Pocus
"Someday we'll look back on this and it will all seem funny". . .Bruce Springsteen |

I concur. Max Maven, Eugene Burger had a profound influence on me. So did Glen Falkenstein.

Eugene Burger, Max Maven, Tony Andruzzi, Docc Hilford...
I could go on and on, but to highlight just one as the MOST influential, I would say Eugene Burger. |

How do you see the evolution of bizarre going from here?
do you think that you take a more realistic approach or do you try to stay in the realms of fantasy? what are the key points of your presentation style? mystery? spooky? paranormal? new age? |

Roni Shachnaey has been an influential figure in developing my bizarre routines. Only seen him perform a handful of times, but seeing him encouraged me to delve further into bizarre.

They all influenced the way I approach Bizarre magick, pretty well in equal measure. Each had, has their own way of viewing it, which permitted me to pick and choose, and evolve. Kotah |

Richiardi, his buzz saw and OLEC pieces amazed me. Both magically and theatrically.
Vincent Price and Karloff, with a bit of Peter Lorre, helped define what I would become, spooky and funny (in a dry way). |

I've been working my way through the replays of Vincent Price's radio tales Price of fear show on the BBC iplayer. Excellent little tales. Then planning on giving the Lovecraft adaptation of the shadow over Innsmouth.

Karloff as Hjalmar Poelzig in "The Black Cat." The film also ha this wonderful dialog:
David Manners (as Peter Allison): "Sounds like a lot of supernatural baloney to me." Bela Lugosi (as Dr. Vitus Werdegast): "Supernatural, perhaps; baloney, perhaps not." |
