Finally released today, the effect that fooled Pen and Teller. From Vanishing inc.
Penn and Teller's hit show Fool Us had a simple premise: perform an effect that the duo couldn't figure out. Only two magicians fooled Penn and Teller in the initial show, and one of those was John Archer. He did so with a smart, simple routine called "Blank Night," and Vanishing Inc. Magic is proud to release it. The effect is a marvelous twist on the classic "Bank Night" effect in which you present five envelopes, and allow spectators to choose any four. Their envelopes contain nothing (or a $0 bill) and yours contains $100. Each package comes with envelopes and a gimmick, as well as a fully-illustrated instruction booklet that covers the technique, theory, and philosophy of John's approach. We urge you to spend five minutes to watch the trailer to see John perform the routine in its entirety as we know you'll fall in love with it! http://www.vanishingincmagic.com/magic/g......erMonday |

Pegasus thanks for posting this!
It's only $25? It fooled Penn and Teller. They could have charged much, much more for this ( because they supply everything ). Click: ARCHER Blank Night |

This was most entertaining to watch. Thanks for posting. I'm not sure exactly where Mr. Archer is from, but his cool accent makes the entire routine that much more fun to see and hear. Pretty insane effect, looks so simple and incredibly fair. The method I'm sure is as amazing as the effect. Great stuff.
Posting ever so slightly.

An older posting from John introducing it back in 2010 thru 2011 with further comment & info / reviews on it,
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=362647&forum=15. Love the banter he used with the audience on the Penn & Teller show were he fooled them ( Google it, hilarious to watch )! I picked this up back then thru his site in just a PFD & you find the correct envelopes & make gimmick ( pretty simple ), have to admit it is worth the $25 now with the included envelopes & gimmick. Pretty simple to do & definitely fun to play with the audience the way he did....LoL It is a angle sensitive from behind / rear side, but stage up front - a great trick !!! & it is 100% free choice with no forces ! you have control of the out come every time with no funny moves & audience members can even keep envelopes they choose. A worth while trick IMO for the price ! OOps - Kobra beat me to the links while I was slow typing..LoL |

Does this come with the envelopes ? John released this as a PDF a few years ago but you had to buy the things to perform it .

Thanks for the kind comments guys. This has re-emerged mainly because so many people (including myself) were finding it difficult to obtain the correct envelopes to construct everything required for the the effect.
Andi and Josh at Vanishing Inc have done a great job in getting everything manufactured perfectly for the effect. I hope those of you who purchase have a lot of fun with it, but you won't fool P&T as I've let them in on the secret. ;-) J |

Priced way to cheap for such an excellent routine. Should have charged double the price to keep it out of the hands of those that only want to know the secret. This routine is for performing, not exposing. I would have certainly paid $100 for this effect.
Oh, and take it off the lecture DVD as well. |

Purchased this just for the envelopes really, tried doing it myself from the PDF and DVD a good while back, I find a good bit of work to get them perfect,
good thing about this effect is that enough people have seen it to say, 'oh I saw this guy blah blah... did you see it?' and you can answer yes, I can show you something similar and it seems to really satisfy people doing that (as much as I don't want to associate it with another effect) You can't copy the same routine, as I said enough people have seen this now to make them hate you if you try to copy it on John's behalf, take the good method and use it on something else, even just numbers! I have used it as a larger version of a normal bank nite (not very original I know but cleanly taking bills out is what I wanted) also, has anyone been watching My supply teacher is magic? (or something) I've been off this week and watching it to see john running about,

John Archer, yeah let's book him!' I would prefer to do my own thing anyway you can copy it if you want to, it wont be as good as John doing it and I think that is the point with this, it's his and it suits him, we have seen once on here already where someone copied him word for word didn't realise actual things that have happened in my life were ridiculous (or is it redictuluous?) too

I ve been doing this for more than a year now..from his dvd......i adapted the gimmick to standard envelopes....now let me tell you the real secret to this...the real strength...the true distinction from most anything else......when you start to do this you never really know what you are going to say...it is almost entirely impromptu....sure you have a few stock lines but you really make it up as you go along...after a few times you get better and better....it is a gem that can really show them who you are .....to relate to the audience. As for the jokes, but the routine does have to be thought about and figured out as each envelope with a word that gets eliminated along the way. Every choice changes the next patter that will be followed. I believe for this to be of real value, the routine and patter is all important. If it is not included, then all you have is a very quick Bank Nite, which I have been doing for years. Yes the bill is folded do to the tray and smaller envelopes, but only magicians would think that an unfolded bill would be earth shattering to an audience. Bank Nite has been a great trick many years before this method, and this method means very little to a lay audience that is expected to be entertained. |
