Just wanted to take a minute to give a quick review of the David Corsaro Marketing Lecture I attended a few weeks ago...
I will start off by saying that I did not want to go to this lecture. To clarify - it had NOTHING to do with David or his material or the lecture itself - but the fact was, it was roughly 65mi away and I would be coming from my day job and heading up there at rush hour. Had it been just a "trick lecture", I probably would not have gone. But the subject matter - marketing/branding and the business-side of performing magic - was something very intriguing to me and something I thought I could benefit from as a performing magician. So I decided last-minute to head up - and after a rainy, bumper-to-bumper 2hr drive, I arrived at the lecture location. In short, I was completely happy with the lecture and felt I got a lot out of it. The suggestions and topics ranged from basic to more creative/complex, in order to appeal to the wide range of magicians present at the lecture. Even the topics that I already felt knowledgeable about, I picked up little bits and inspiration on. Sometimes you just need that push, in order to put into motion, the ideas that you already have floating around in the back of your mind. While the focus was on marketing/branding - David did teach a couple of tricks. But the tricks themselves were very much related to marketing and branding yourself. They were tricks that incorporated and demonstrated the marketing theories he spoke about during the night. To top it all off - David is a super-nice guy and very giving of his time and knowledge. He spent a good ten minutes chatting with me one-on-one after the lecture ended, about a specific branding issue I face. I really appreciated that. All in all, I highly recommend this lecture to anyone looking to do more paying gigs and establish themselves more as a working, professional magician. You won't learn a ton of new tricks and new sleights with a ton of new gimmicks and props. You also won't have 19 different dealer items to choose from after the lecture is over. But to me, that's a good thing. It's a unique and educational lecture that really fills a niche and delivers. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

This is real-world material that David shares. David is very clever in that he divides the lecture into how much you have in the way of marketing effort and money to spend on yourself: do you need free business cards? He tells you where to get them. Do you want to pay for high-quality business cards? David discusses the reasons why you may want to consider this, too. He takes every facet of self-promotion and not only provides experience but choices for you, as well. This is well thought out, detailed, and proven material. You are learning from a magician who himself uses these techniques--that's what makes David's lecture and material different from the other **it out there. In the spirit of full disclosure, David is a close personal friend of mine, a friendship born out of mutual respect. I have learned--and continue to learn--much from David as a performer and as a marketer. Give yourself the Corsaro advantage.
Respectfully, Mark Zacharia
