Yes I take the point. But if you see and treat rabbits as vermin (and I can understand why you might in Oklahoma), it's odd to include them in your show.

I had always heard that you can introduce a female into a male's domain, but trying the reverse will end up with at least one bloody rabbit.
Regarding the vermin comment, the jack rabbit explosion during the Dust Bowl was definitely in that category. Coyote population had been reduced, so their natural prey grew in numbers to the point that they threatened human existence in that area. But, animals used in shows were not considered vermin. They were however, considered livestock, and not pets. Sensibilities have changed, but it should be understood that any such farm animal that was not onstage stood a good chance of being on a serving platter. Again, I don't endorse that kind of treatment of animals, but considering the day and age when the video was made, most people were quite familiar with where the meat they ate came from. Today's society has done their best to blind themselves from the reality.

I have owned a lot of rabbit productions, and my favorite one is Abbott's Elusive Bunny Box. I also use a Morrissey Super Pan quite a bit. There are many out there, and a lot of good ones, but those are 2 of my personal favorites. The decision for the best one for you may depend upon your style and your bunny routine.

Thanks for the input, Regan. The Elusive Bunny Box has caught my eye, more than any others. Will be interested to pick one up used, if anyone is willing to part with theirs. Was also considering a pan, so I appreciate the recommendation.
Care to share why you prefer the Bunny Box? |

As far a using a Rabbit Pan, I have heard many stories when used with rabbits, especially if you use the fire that many use. Rabbits have gotten hot feet and urinated to cool the bottom of the pan. Thus producing a very wet rabbit.

Thanks, Bill, good to know. Actually, the more I look at the Morrissey pan, online, the more I feel it looks... obvious? It's just so huge, for what it is. I think the box is more deceptive (in a sense), and since they're similarly priced, the box seems a more attractive option...

You must train the rabbit so he WANTS to go into the box. He feels safe, cozy. Otherwise, you are torturing the animal each time you perform.
The very best rabbit production box is the JUMBO RABBIT OR ANIMAL PRODUCTION DIE BOX. It combines a SUPER JUMBO size die box routine with the surprise of a rabbit or other similar size animal appearing! If you don't want to use animals it can produce flowers and any other objects that can fit inside the box. I am not sure if the link below will work, but if not, search for F055 on abra4magic.com You'll find two rave reviews from pro's there. http://www.abra4magic.com/Merchant2/merc......een=PROD |

If you want to use a rabbit in your show, the important subject not yet discussed is obtaining the proper USDA permit to “display” an animal in a performance.
Performing with a rabbit in a magic show, even in a children's home birthday party without a permit may incur a fine of up to $10,000.00 from the Federal Government. Howie thanks for the information and links. $50 I can cover on the first time I book a party, the rest is the icing on the cake.

Using a rabbit in your show is a big winner; after the rabbit is produced, I have all the children sit in a circle and then I award the responsibility of watching the rabbit to a parent, that will make sure that the rabbit in not abused by acts like the kids picking him up by his ears; this gives me plenty of time to pack up and roll my two cases out to the Magic Bus without children hanging around my table.
I started out with one rabbit, as of today I own five rabbits; mom and dad, (the factory) and offspring rabbits that I can sell at the show. |
