Can't really blame the guy for not wanting to get mugged for his boots.

Yes, of course... it was him "wanting a piece of the pie" that makes me shake my head. The limits of gratitude in that statement is pitiful.

After seeing his response, my only reaction at this point, let him live in the street. It's where he belongs. It's HIS choice. How about a commendation for the cop who bought the boots for him?

My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums.

The policeman has been the subject of many news stories and interviews already. He did a good thing.

Amen on that Michael. Cops get a bad rap these days and there are more good ones out there than folks will ever know about because it's just not reported. It took a tourist with a camera to get this. Used to be reporters got these stories, huh?

The policeman did a good thing and hopefully doesn't feel burned by this.

Keeping in mind that we don't know the situation of the homeless man though it may be that he is used to living without shoes and could use the money for food which might be more helpful to him. I don't think the "piece of the pie" statement was ungrateful towards the cop but towards the newspaper that is making money off of stories about him while is starving on the street. Not that he should expect to be paid, but it's not that far out there.

I agree. I was going to say that we should walk a mile in his shoes, but...

Turns out the barefoot homeless man in NYC who isn't wearing the shoes the NYC cop bought for him, isn't really homeless at all. Isn't that special? So, let's just keep throwing money at these people, huh?

So a guy with no shoes has to be homeless before anyone helps out?

The guy is already getting help and undoubtedly has more shoes, but chooses not to wear them, just as he chooses not to wear the ones the cop gave him. And we can't argue that he's afraid to wear them out of fear that someone will steal them from him because he already has a paid-for apartment where he can keep his stuff. So to use the cliche, what's wrong with this picture?

That you seem to know all about this guy, and I'm going out on a limb here, don't even know the guy.

I don't know the guy, but just read the article and it'll tell you about the guy.

Other good samaritans have stepped up to say that they also gave the guy shoes over a period of more than a year. Whether he is deranged or an ingrate, this still shows that there are some nice people in the world.

Maybe this guy is in the "FUBAR" caterogy.
