Hi!
I'm looking for two techniques (names with asterixs will be sufficient to not risk exposure!). 1. I'd like to be able to stack my deck (for example 4 c**ds to the t*p) in front of spectators. I imagine I can do this with a spread and some kind of jog control? Any name? 2. I'd like to open a spread, have a card put in by spectator, close spread and have the crd on top. I know I have seen this, but have no idea where or what it is called.. Any help? |

1. There's one in APOCALYPSE that I use all the time, but can't think of the its name at the moment.
2. Spread Pass. (Or for three cards, look up my Spread Control.

Additional to the pointers Harry Lorayne gave to you - in answer of your first task you might want to dive into the world of culling. Widely recommended is the work of Kostya Kimlat, namely his Roadrunner Cull DVD. You can also find good descriptions in Card College and many more ressources. If you search through the forums here you cant avoid the topic as its been discussed only recently.
Concerning your second question you cant go wrong at all with the two items Mr. Lorayne mentioned. His Spread Control can be found in his Classic Collection Volume 1. Have fun and good luck with your venture All the best, Sven ^^

Troy Hooser's Slipstream or it's variations might work.

For the first part, why not try a cool effect designed by John Guastaferro in his book titled One Degree. Turn to page 6 and learn the effect "Either/Or."
For the second part you could do the Spread Pass or a Side Steal or Marlo's Convincing Control (It's been awahile since I have done the Marlo move so I cannot recall if it displaces cards at the top. I don't think it does so it would meet your criteria). Also, check out Larry Jennings' Open Control in Best of Friends volume one. This is a Convincing Control variant that I use now instead of Marlo's original. Luckily BoF I is still in print. Namaste, Vlad PS: One Degree is a SUPERB book by the way. Learn "Truth in Advertising" which is a really strong effect. It bears some resemblance to The Leeds Miracle by Barry Stevenson in Apocalypse. In addition to a dozen great effects are very thoughtful essays by Mr. G. |

Thank you everybody for great tips!!
After a bit more research I see that people tend to use the pass to close a spread with a chosen card. Would this be recommended over a cull? |

If I could do a cull, I'd use it, but can't do a decent cull if my life depended on it!! And I also can't do a "normal" (or "regular") side steal. So, check out my book SPECIAL EFFECTS for my method of doing a side steal (which which, incidentally, I fooled quite a few knowledgeable cardmen before I put it in print). Anyway... HL.

If I've understood what you're asking for in your second question then Steve Draun's 'Draun Control' is very simple and would work. It's definitely on his Standing Room Only Vol 2 DVD and I think it's in his book Draun From Underground too.

A simple cull will work for both. Roadrunner Cull is a good source to learn a specific handling and several good tips which address some common difficulties when first learning it.
