They say that no man shall be left behind.
A fallen comrade shall be born upon the shoulders and backs of those that still push on to the goal. This is a noble gesture! A gesture of great deeds to be done by those that still have ability to move on their own. I ask you this.... when the battle of the day is finished and all have returned to the hearth what then? The brother that has fallen into the grave is marked in a place of remembrance so that we may not forget his sacrifices. But what of he that lays broken and twisted from the days battles? Where is his shrine? Is it that little purple piece of cloth and metal? Does that cover the sins of humanity written hard on the flesh of our brave brother? For that matter is he less brave that he lived while others died? His broken body a horrid reminder that he was cursed to live? But I digress. Back in the land of the free! The war is over! No longer a soldier or brother in arms is he. No immortal shrine to commemorate him. Just a small check every month to make "we the people" feel justified in our use of heroes as we cast aside the spent bodies and souls like used cartridges on the field of battle. He is old now.. Worn, tired always full of pain. He is forgotten by those that he stood and fought for. Past by on the street with not so much as a look or a smile. I see many that say “we support our troops” my question is how? How do you support them? With words? What they need is a brother in arms to stand by them! To lift them up that they may be honored as a true hero. A comrade that will comfort them as they travel a dark painful road of life after battle. Some of you will say. “ I have not served as a soldier!” does this excuse you from your duty as a humanitarian? What of your old? Are they as cast aside in your daily life? Shuffled off in to homes for the broken old? These where the parents that bore you on their shoulders vowing never to leave you behind! bow broken, and alone. But I digress... Michael |

Do you have an effect in mind for this piece Michael?
Powerful words, a very simple effect should be enough-- transform, in your hands, a shiny and new Purple Heart medal into an old, tarnished and tattered version? A stand-up-in-the-hand doll, slooowwly lying down? Thanks for remembering my friend, Bill Z. |

I do actually I'm just trying to figure out if I should lose the last section and tighen it up of leave it in and encompass the whole of humanity in it. the routine is simple direct and very pointed.
when it is done there will be no doubt it is over. |
