Enough of the politics and religion, I've got a serious question.

If you have a song stuck in your head that is sung by someone of the opposite gender; do you sing it as is, or adapt it to yourself.

Are you gay?
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

If you are or not feeling or showing pleasure or contentment then singing can make you feel gay.

Tommy,
I was going to respond but your second post made it clear that I have no idea what the he** you are talking about.

Mobilitybundle,
noted

Bob,
Not exactly the kind of song I was thinking of, but if that got stuck in your head it certainly would qualify (I don;t know that one, I will check it on youtube)

Michael Baker,
LMFAO!!!!

In the intervening minutes I have listened to "I enjoy being a girl."
I think this is so clearly a girls song (as the name suggested) it probably doesn't apply; I was thinking of songs that are essentially gender-neutral but have one or two lines that would need to be changed to gender appropriate.

I've always thought that the girls tend to have better songs in Broadway musicals; and for Tommy's benefit I would like to point out, in regards to Broadway, "it's not just for gays anymore:"

I let them sing it, it's their song.

Courtney-

"I Enjoy Being a Girl" is from the musical South Pacific. The song was a standard in Miss America pageants of days gone by. It's still popular in drag revues.

When I perform "Angel from Montgomery" I sing the first line "I am an old woman," as written.

Interestingly, it was written by John Prine.

Joni Mitchell sang "I was a free man in Paris"

If the original lyrics were good enough for the writer, they're good enough for me. "Goodbye Earl" by the Dixie Chicks comes to mind. Clearly gender specific, but a great song for anyone to sing. And the writer in this case was one Dennis Linde.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about? Smile

My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums.

House of the Rising Sun. Bob Dylan sings it original, Eric Burdon with a changed lyric.

Re: Joni Mitchell. She wrote that song for David Geffen. He is "free man in Paris".
Bob Dylan stole Dave Van Ronk's version. That version of the House of the Rising Son was discovered and re-arranged by Dave and Bob stole it for his first album. It caused a rift between that two artists that lasted for years.

I do a song by Lucinda Williams called King of Hearts, which I change to Queen of Hearts when I perform it.

Recently I've had the Christine Lavine song "It is a good thing he can't read my mind" in my head, having heard it performed recently. I found on spotify that it has been recorded by two different Gay Men's Choirs.

@Slide. Joni did indeed write the song about David Geffen. The point I was trying to make is that she sang from the first person masculine and the song came out just fine.
