I am coordinating and also performing on the entertainment stage at an SCA Medieval event at the end of January.

So far I am thinking of doing:
Cups and balls routine (Very Medieval)
A rope routine (easily made Medieval with the right story).
Maybe the 20th Century silks from Bill Palmers book.
I was also thinking of performing a rope escape with a Robin Hood theme.

Anybody else have suggestions? I am going to try and have as much material ready to perform as I can incase I need to fill in spots on the daily schedule.

Escapes can certainly have a medieval flavor to them. Same thing for vanishes or transposition effects. Something like an arm chopper also comes to mind. I'm sure there's more, but those were the first things that came to mind.

Have fun with it!

Master Payne has a number of great ideas in his "Sometimes the Jokes are Just for Me" as well--for example, a terrific routine transforming a sucker die box into a reliquary. I highly recommend you check out his book.

I do need to get a copy of Payne's book. I did get a copy of Bill Palmers book on Ren Faire performing.

I will put together a couple of 15 minute sets and use them to fill in blanks in the schedule between other perofrmers.

I should have mentioned Bill Palmer's book as well; glad to know you have it. His advice is always terrific!

I agree about Bill's book - it's worth its weight in gold!

Another book worth its weight in gold is Lord of Legerdemain - The Renaissance Magick of MarcoM the MountebanK. You can see if it is still available through Bill Palmer at http://www.adessoverlag.com/lord.htm

Excellent reading suggestions and the only one I don't currently own is the book that Payne wrote.

The show is just a few weeks away. My plan is to a short cups and ball routine, a little routine using the MAK Teapot. A lotta bowl and spring animal comedy bit and maybe a little story involving Robin Hood escaping from and having fun with the Sheriff using a pair of in and out cuffs.

The event is this weekend.

I am doing the Teapot, the in and out handcuffs, cups and balls, professors nightmare, chinese sticks. Maybe a drawing dupe if there is time. It is all fun and silly type of stuff that I hope will work for a family audience.

I don't get a lot of chances to perform (I have a full time job and a semi-pro band) so I am excited!

My short show went over well! The in and out handcuffs seemed to go over the best. I had two people fasten and lock the cuffs. Then I struggled and wiped my brow and then struggled some more and took a drink of water and so on.

Here are a couple of photos of me performing at the event. I am dressed in 14th Century English clothing.
