@trueinventor - wow everything you've written is really really touching. Definitely adds a lot more meaning to the vale of mystery behind FAX.

Until now I had never heard of Loki Kross, or FAX. I simply went to the Penguin site, saw FAX was number one, and next thing I know I'm reading everything I can find on it. This is definitely one of the most incredible effects I've seen done in the spectators hands in a while. Can't wait to learn this bit of genius, and add it to my magic methods. Great work Loki!

Alright lets kill the fishing expedition and get into some real meat here...

I'm going to share some inside info with my pals here on the Café for this quite hot release - I have not yet tried it but the information below is quite accurate and should (hopefully) dispel some guesses and rumors, but of course it will likely generate other questions.

This is apparently Loki's first major release - It was also shared that FAX has been in the works and and developed over a period of years. I am also told that the method is well disguised and invisible with multiple layers of misdirection built in.

These "tidbits" were generously shared with me this eveing by someone I know is quite familar with FAX and has road tested it when it was released last June for testing. I greatly appreaciate the insights...THANK YOU.

So let me share some more...all I really know as of tonight...

In terms of the ambitious card routine seen on the demo, the spectator I'm told will have FULL control in terms of their ability of looking straight down at their own card & signature before inserting it themselves into the pack which is in their own hands. Crazy huh?

The card being inserted is THEIR card and it could even be dated with the signature. They can take as much time as they want while inserting - no rush, no fuss, no muss.

Apparently there is another routine included in the 1.5 hour DVD involving the spec tearing their card, and in another the card lays on a table in plain view until they pick it up on reveal.

I'm also told that there are NO Drawing Room Deceptions type ideas that were used in Loki's FAX release - the kind of stuff from Guy Hollingsworth, etc. that encompassed fake scribbles or signing more than once. Not the case here - dead end.

I can't wait to get this - like all of you I am extremely curious as to the method and love the fact that this happens in the spectator's hands.

That's all I know - I will review once I get this probably in the next week I hope.

Mr. SaySold1, you're are my Café concierge, thank you for the exciting and amazing insight!!! Smile

Silver Glove Magic - glad you're excited, but take what you read with a grain of salt. There are a couple of things in that post you quoted that might lead to disappointment if you take them as gospel prior to purchase.

@MaxfieldsMagic Thanks for the concern. But I've been disappointed before, and I've learned how to handle it. I'm a big boy. I'm just simply expressing my excitement. If Mr. SaySold posted something misleading that I quoted, perhaps take it up with him via PM. I forget that even just posting something as simple and honest either about a quote, or just being smitten about a new product, will get picked apart and viewed under a microscope till it almost has no meaning at all anymore.

I guess I am forced to curb my enthusiasm, and say this as boring as humanly possible as to not bring attention to my excitement..."I've-purchased-this-effect. And-I-am-looking-forward-to-learning-it" (mono-tone-robotic-voice).

Right on, MaxfieldsMagic.

Looking for some tips from those Lefty's that still hold the deck in the left had mech grip? PM

Watch the DVD with VLC player on your pc and you can flip the video so it comes off as left handed. Text will be backward but you'll get the hang of it.

Not really seeing how being lefty is a concern with this.
It's amazing, people will criticize you for "biting the hand that feeds you," while they're busy praising the hand that beats them.

He didn't have the product yet when he wrote the post you quoted, so there's no way he was being deliberately misleading. I was just pointing out that not every description of the performance conditions in that post is completely accurate. You'll find out for yourself when you watch the DVD. That doesn't mean that Fax is not a worthwhile technique. It is, and has the potential for some great applications, a few of which are taught on this DVD.

Well normally it isn't a big deal. But unlike Bill Malone even though I am a Lefty I still hold the deck in Mech Grip IN my left hand. So its more of a comfort thing. that is all I know people have said how they handle this little hiccup and those are good answers it still just boils down to how comfortable it is to do without practice.. IE: my Classic Palm Is perfect with my left but with ten plus years of practice it still always feels awkward with the right.

I actually did have an early copy of FAX in hand far ahead of release.

That being said, I was extremely limited in what I could state or say weeks before the official release.

Silverglove and others - I appreciate the compliment and hopefully I was on target with most of what I tried to say - without exaggerating or getting in trouble with the creator or Penguin, etc. The 7th paragraph in what I said in that quote probably could have been better worded in hindsight - which I realized after reading it at the time after posting.

I'm thrilled that people are really liking this - of all the new releases this year FAX is a game changer imo.

AHHH. No I see your problem. Never thought about that. Hmm, not sure what else to say without saying too much, lol.

Man, I am really wishing this wasn't released, lol. I was really frying fellow magicians, now I'm gonna have to go bank to relying on actual sleight of hand, lol.

Hi guys, and ladies Smile. I'm still waiting, excitedly for FAX to arrive. I love magic but have so little time to practice so I am a
big purchaser of gimmicked things which I know from comments Loki's idea is not.

When I DO have to actually learn a method or slight, as I will with FAX it seems, I have to go REAL REAL slow: one tiny step at a time and constantly rewind videos.

In light of that, I hope this will help other beginners or time constrined guys: I download from the Penguin download area of my account and/or copy my Magic DVD into Sony Vegas or other video editing program where I can then advance the video as slow as one frame at a time if I have to. IT REALLY REALLY CAN HELP!! At CNET you probably can find Free Video editing software for this.

And just a note to Penguin and other Video producers: if you add the slow-mo feature built into your magician's videos I would definitely pay $5.00 extra. It's easy to build that feature in. You could then offer "EXPERIENCED MAGICIANS" normal-speed videos at the regular price or offer "DON'T GIVE UP MR. BEGINNER CAUSE YOU WILL EVENTUALLY GET IT" videos with the Slo-Mo option for an extra $5.

An additional benefit is that it's fun to hear Greg Wilson or Oz or Cameraon.. talk extremely slow and low which I kind of think is a voice Stucky must speak with judging from his scary (but handsome) photo. OR, you can speed it up and have magicians sound like Munchkins Smile I know, I'm 57 and haven't grown up yet...but life is more fun for kids!

P.S. I will kindly offer this service for "free" to any Magician who gives me a first look at their magic and personally gives me lessons...just kidding guys...unless of course....Smile

To view DVDs and videos in slow motion on a computer, download VLC media player. IT'S FREE! (Just use the minus key on your keyboard, or the menu: Playback\Speed\Slower.)

Having read a post earlier in this thread, I have a question about the ethics of buying second-hand:

If I buy a gimmickless effect such as Fax second-hand (e.g. on eBay), even assuming the seller has not made a copy and will never perform the effect, in buying a second-hand product am I unfairly depriving the creator, producer, distributer etc. of the effect revenue? And am I therefore potentially harming creativity in magic?

I'm all for protecting my bank balance, but wouldn't want to harm magic in doing so...

Well, the fact that there is a "DVD for sale" section here seems to condone the practice.

Same with books, magic or otherwise. I think the first-hand price takes this dilemma into account, that's why the second-hand price is so much less.

If you're not comfortable with it, don't do it. Support the creators directly. In fact, purchase from them rather than retailers such as Penguin - the creators will get a larger portion of the profit. But it's a fundamental tenet of U.S. copyright and intellectual property law that resale is OK, as long as copies aren't made.

Welcome to the contradiction that is intellectual property. When you actually start to think about it and analyze it, in principles not necessarily in law, although there's plenty of contradictions in there.
