Purchased mine tonight at Magifest. It is awesome! I'm excited to read the chapter on spelling effects. It's well worth the wait.

Hey all,
Marshall asked me to pass along the following message. He will be at MagiFest but with no internet access. I think after you read this we need to give him kudos and maybe pony up for some chocolates for his wife as a thank you! Message follows: " hey guys, just a quick update. The Trost books were do at the shop today (Thursday) but are not showing up until tomorrow afternoon. I am out of town at Magifest, so my wife is shipping ALL of the preorders Saturday morning. That is the earliest we could ship since they will arrive tomorrow evening. Sorry for the delay as we were really hoping to get them shipped today! A big thanks to my wife though since she is packing TONS of Trost books tomorrow night. Thanks to all of you who continue to support the Nick Trost series. Rest assured, there are some great tricks in this volume. There is a nice buzz at the booth about quite a few tricks in this volume. - marshall" |

Well, mine arrived on Monday, but I've been out of town since Sunday night, so no chance to look yet. However, I'm headed home tomorrow and will plan to post some first impressions on Saturday! Can't wait.

The Gilbreath section is a blast Of special note also is the section on Gemini Twins - there are some really cool variants on this plot. Hat's off to H&R for the superb job with this great set. We are at volume 4 of a projected 8 volume set. When this is done, taken together this set will roughly approach the epic proportions of the BIG books in magic like Greater Magic, Stweart James in Print, and The James File. The page count now is just below Miracle Factory's Al Baker's Secret Ways. I understand that Nick Trost's wishes should be respected but I really wish he would have allowed this set to be split into two large volumes like The James File. Still, at 862 pages thus far there is plenty to keep me busy It seems to me that each book is better than the last which really speaks to the excellence of the material since volume one was really a fine beginning. If you do only hardcore sleight of hand and refuse to look into works by Trost, James, Judah, Colombini, and Beam's SACT series to name but a few, you are really robbing yourself of great magic as well as ideas and subtleties that could enhance your pure sleight of hand work. Namaste, Vlad PS: Once again, a HUGE thank you to Marshall's WIFE who packed these books while Marshall was at MagiFest. She really deserves some choccy for this!! |

Whew! Glad we're back in Vlad's good stead!
I'm glad H&H are publishing the Trost books in the eight volume format----cuz I can carry them! And easily read them! And set them in a book stand! AND get through them! Woot! Woot! Woot!

Okay, if you have the book, check out the chapters on the Gilbreath Principle as well as Gemini Twins - really great stuff! If you DON'T have the book, may the fleas of the dogs of one thousand YouTube hacks infest your bed sheets.

I have said this to a few people who asked. Volume 3 is still my favorite overall, but my favorite chapter from any volume is Gilbreath Plays Poker from this current Volume.

Delving deeper over the last few weeks some of the gems I've found
Free Cut Mariages - a different handling of the free cut principle I've not seen before combined with a variant of Terry Legerould's Countdown force which seems so fair and disarming Cabalistic Countdown - a fair looking location where the spectator finds his card after the cards are randomly dealt. I've added a breather crimp to this to negate the need to count the necessary cards at the beginning. Four for the money - Again combining the free cut principle and the countdown force to locate 4 chosen cards The Four Kings - The magician demonstrates how he can control the four kings to be dealt to whichever poker hand the spectator dicates even after the deck has been fairly shuffled by the spectator and simple to do. I don't care much for the initial counting procedure to locate the four kings infact I'd explain to the spectator this is how a magician would find the cards but a skilled gambler would be able to do it even after the cards were shuffled by the spectator. Good use of the gilbreath principle Overall I'd rate Vol 4 more than Vol 3. I can only assume a Vol 5 is in the works since one of the chapters is titled Gilbreath Plays Poker Part 1 |

Got my copy of Vol 4 today and the effects are, like in the other 3 books in the series so far, ingenious! However, the page numbering seems to be off in my book! It begins with Chapter 35 - which is correct - but the actual pages begin with 581 and end with 862. Vol 3 ends on page 850 - so logically, Vol 4 should begin with 851 and not 581!
This transposing of the first two digits causes confusion and may affect an overall indexing when the 9 vols are completed. Not a big problem so far as each volume is individually indexed, but jut wondering why this discrepancy wasn't rectified before publishing? |
