In another life I would have been a professional Magician but alas I went into Video Production which thankfully is keeping me very busy these days. However, I do like to have a few good impromptu tricks to show co workers and friends when I get the chance. I like to find tricks that are self working or require fairly easy sleight of hand since I have very limited time to practice these things. I haven't been to the forums in a long while and have just recently been searching for a few new tricks. I just bought X-Act which I think is fantastic and has served me well this past week. I was curious what other simple to do tricks have come out this past year that people have really liked. I am still browsing through the forum to see what else I can find, but in case I have missed something from the past several months I would like to hear a few recommendations from you guys if you don't mind.

The practical stuff I do all the time. And you will too. Impromtu Half Deck Out of this World (all time favorite effect) Ring Flight Revolution (Truly anytime, anywhere. Borrowed object. Perfect) Invisible Deck (We all hate to admit it, but it doesn't really get any better) TT- Still the easiest and cleanest way to get an object to impossible location. Grail- Grail is X-act, without all the unnecessary gimmicks; also allows you to hand the deck to spectator to count. major plus. very simple, totally invisible sleight. In about year, when X-act is yesterday's news, Grail will still be a classic. Finders Keypers- I use this as a one in four (sometimes one in eight) prediction. A mix of ridiculously modern technology and old school equivoque. So clean. So perfect. Sugar Rush- Ok, I put this one out. But to be honest, I still carry it with me everywhere I go. Impossible looking sleight of hand with everyday objects. And no sleight of hand.
Sugar Rush is here! Freakishly visual magic. http://www.plattmagic.com

Ignition
skycap flash (not too hard, easy if you can do colour changing knives) sugar rush stand up monte (2011) or 3 by steve valentine (2012)... both great monte routines. not difficult in terms of slight of hand... but a fair amount of memorization work and practice to make it a good performance. from 2011, industrial revelation is amazing. not cheap (but not overpriced)... very easy to do... amazing effect. |

Not sure when everything came out, but some of my favorite recent releases (within the last year or so) include:
Captain & Coke 2.0 (I might be biased towards this one) UCCU (Any Card to Spectator's Wallet) Scratch by Chad Long Ignition by Chris Smith It's by no means a complete list, of course, but has a good little variety and is all pretty easy to do.

Photo Shop by Will Tsai. It's a trick from some time ago, but boy that thing is amazing.. Bold and easy to do, huge reaction always. And you can customize your own trick. I still use it all the time. The inventor of the trick really understands magic. If you use iPhone, search for iForce. Very practical and very easy to do. Captain & Coke is also quite nice if you want a pocket miracle. Hope this helps.

Glad you like X-act. I am very proud of it. If you do not have it, I would get David Stone's Tool. Tons of self working effects with this gem. Mike |

REAL SECRETS each month has been incredible.
Steve Fearson's FREE ENERGY is a powerhouse Peter Eggink's Hole is fantastic. Justin Miller's down loads have improved my magic. The Penguin LIVE lectures have allowed me to see people I'd never get a chance to. I wonder what 2013 will bring? |

Awesome! Thanks for the responses!
Mike your X-Act is my favorite CAAN. The gimmick is ridiculously easy to use and anyone who likes this type of trick would be doing themselves a disservice not getting it. I built a routine using the gimmicked x-act deck and another deck with 4 Br*****r cards spread evenly throughout the deck. I get two spectators and have one pick a number between 1 and 52 and then have the other one cut the Br*****r deck once or twice and set aside the card they cut to. I then count down with the X-Act deck the number chosen by the first spectator and after a bit of patter have them turn over their cards to reveal they chose the same card. I have done this trick about 5 times without issues and with great reactions! Quote:

If you're looking for an effect that's really impressive, and quite easy to do, check out the bill routine (second of three routines on the DVD). I really like the last one as well, involving a homemade lottery ticket in a sealed envelope, but it's a little more involved than the bill routine in terms of preparation, extra props, and probably practice.
