I like Brainwave "My Way" on The Classic Magic of Michael Vincent Volume 1 "The Pathway To Excellence"
http://www.michaelvincentproductions.com/acatalog/info_13.html, around 2:20. Solid magic with a great presentation.

Too much handling.

Although it seems pretty cool to have the effect happen in the spectator's hands; I actually prefer to do the ID trick with an audience at a bit of distance. The choice which is shouted out seems more random, having them throw an imaginary deck into the bag etc etc. I haven't been asked for deck inspection I think because of my distance (even if a short distance) from the audience. It's the invisible wall (sorry for the pun). and a merry christmas to all. Lynn

I think much more of an effect can be achieved with a trick deck in this case, IF the routine is thought out properly. I thought so much about how to make this effect perfect (or as close to perfection as possible) that I even wrote an ebook, my only one so far, on the subject. It can be found here: http://www.lybrary.com/ideas-with-the-invisible-deck-p-321821.html. However, I am open to a gimmick-less version only if the effect produced can amaze or entertain more than any of the ideas I currently use (mine are very different from the standard handling, and despite using some of them on a regular basis, I shared all in the ebook). For example, I just performed "Coffee Divination" (one of the funnier routines, which also allows me to practice the classic force with no repercussion if I miss) at a wedding recently, and it's a routine I described in great detail in the ebook. I am wondering if anyone has read the ebook and performed one of these routines, and how it went...

... but maybe you can use it to show off with magicians if you are interesting in magic for magicians

That's atrocious. With all the weird gesticulating (and the big bloc of cards that seems to turn up when they are removed from the case) people will just assume he found and turned around the selected card, a task made much much easier by the cards being in new deckish order. A huge step backwards. (And why do magicians shout like they're selling mops on an infomercial?)

"Its not a version of the invisible deck. Its his presentation of an Un-Gaffed Ultra Mental. The Invisible Deck was Don Alan's presentation of the Ultra Mental Pack"
It 'is' what people call it, and what is widely recognized. Overwhelmingly, people say and recognize "invisible deck" and Elmsley Count, not "Ultra Mental Pack" and "ghost count," much as "double lift" is frequently used, without any confusion whatsoever, to refer to a double turnover. Language is practical, not some list of immutable, inflexible terms that must be used, forever, merely because they came first. That's not to say Don Alan should be erased from history or that no notice should be given to the clumsy phrase, "ultra mental pack," that never really caught on. But the purpose of words in ordinary conversation is to communicate with clarity, not to demonstrate how much someone knows by being deliberately obscure. To the great majority of people, calling this trick "a version of the invisible deck" communicates exactly what it is. |

IMHO it looks and "feels" like a stinker to me as I'd NEVER get away with taking a deck out that way, it looks WAY too strange. I'd stick to the other versions by Elmsley and Close etc. if you want to go the un-gimmicked route.

Most bizarre way of taking a deck out of the box I've seen in over 20 years of being in magic. I really don't do ID very often. I normally reserve it for stand up presentations. Not a big deal to use a gaffed deck for me to do that because I do 99% of everything ungaffed. In the rare instance I need to do ID, I'll stick to the original.
