I think this often depends on who or what you aare exactly trying to promote. For example if you are trying to promote a show or tour, using the name is a definite such as http://www.MagicalMysteryTour.com. However, if you are seeking name recognition and branding, you may opt to use your own name.com or your own name and description such as http://www.KameronMagic.com or http://www.KameronMagicShow.com.
I'm not a big fan of county or location domains unless the county or town is a regualrly commonly used name or reference such as http://www.OrangeCountryMagician.com. I still don't like it as it is identity-less other than implying you serve Orange County. This is often perceoved as amatuerish and very restrictive in today's marketplace. These may nbe good for secondary or enhancement domains that are routed or pointed to your main domain and web site. This allows you to use for marketing and search engine results purposes. Much of the answer to your question depends on your business plan and execution. Usually if this is in place first, this type of question can often answer itself or simply falls nicely into place. |

Good stuff, Mindpro. I'm currently running another one of my businesses, and NO magic, and am planning next years "plan" right now. I'm going to focus on getting recurring gigs like restaurants etc so I can get my cards and name out there as much as possible. My out of area shows have come about just by me getting online as much as possible, and I'm not going to worry about the odd big show as much as the more reliable weekly gigs. Those will be more advertising than anything, but I get some money from that.

I think you could be on a good path. Recurring gigs such as restaurants, youth clubs, social clubs and organizations, kids clubs, etc. can be a great deliberate marketing plan to lead to better paying public and private events, while offering you free advertising and promotion, and actually earning as you do it. To me, this is the true value in in thes etypes of recurring public gigs. You are not doing itr for the money, but rather as part of a bogger plan or picture.
A few bits of advice - always be sure each recurring place you perform allows you to put a sign or poster up in the enrance way, waiting area or foyer with your name, web site and photo with "appearing every Tuesday Night From 5-8p.m." or whatever the arrangement is. Especially with your unique look, it must be very visually exciting and inviting. Also if they allow, outside signage on the marquee or perhaps a vinyl banner promoting yourslef. You may have to provide these but they are a great investments as are table tents. In this example you are using the gigs to... make some money promote yourself publically if you are smart create a mailing list database visually create in-house awareness and branding establish yourself as a well-received enitity in each of tehse restuarants setting yourself up and positioning yourself to be the first person customers think of for their kids parties, holiday and company events & pincics, community fairs & fests, and other better paying events. A few pointers - never let inquiring customers know what the restuarant is paying you, only quote and discuss your rates to them for their private events, be sure as part of your arrangement with these venues you clearly state you can promote yourself and give out your promo and business cards, create a multi-layered or multi-step call to action to get them to visit your web site outside of the restaurant, and understand this is a marketing and stepping stone for promotion (otherwise you will be stuck at this leve and be perceived as only a restuarant level performer and not as you intend to be seen for other events as well). Too many of these types of performers become redundant, stagnant, and stuck in this one level, rather than using it as a platform and an opportunity for other advanced level opportunities. Good thinking and goal action. |

Some of my websites are put together using the names of a county. It helps increases SEO efforts. People have searched for a magician naming the city or county.

Thank you Mike. Magic Ian hosts my website as he designed it. On the cover page, there is a link to my facebook fan page for Police Magic that Al Angello got me to make. It shows some videos and other things that I cannot put on the webpage. The website also shows Pop Haydn's Greater American Confidence Party and has a memorial site for my grand daughter as well as some news items that appeared in the newspaper.
I am very pleased with all Magic Ian has done to my website to improve the contents. He has a special section for each of my books and dvd's that he produced as well. Wish I had the talent Magic Ian does with computers.

Mine was derived from the notion of 1) effective branding, 2) name recognition and 3) what it is that we do. So our website is http://www.kyleandkellymagic.com. The first names are what we go by and they are very easy to recall and remember. Magic is what we do. So most folks (long before I had the website) would always refer to us as Kyle and Kelly Magic or a variation of that.
My Google Analytics and stats also show that folks most often put in a search of our names with the word magic to locate and find us. So this methodology has worked well for us based on marketing effectively. Kyle

Agreed with mindpro.
my main site is http://www.samsandler.com gives me name recognition and branding. however I have a new show that I am currently pushing so the new site for it http://www.deafinitelymagic.com this is promoting my new show which I will be taking on a national tour starting in September 2013. I wanted to promote the show name and get myself associated with "deaf" and its working. my ministry site which is currently off line is explosionminitries.com we are looking into renaming it possibly as I fear with the word "explosion" and all that is going on in the world that maybe it is time to change the name. sam
