A new eBook - Jiggery Pokery - by Italian magician Biagio Fasano and myself has just been released on Lybrary.
http://www.lybrary.com/jiggery-pokery-p-247787.html Jiggery Pokery is a self-working three-phase Texas Hold 'em routine for mentalists and card workers. It can be presented as either a triple prediction or an even stronger clairvoyance effect. JP develops a concept published by Ben Harris in "Psi Poker" and Ben has been kind enough to say: "This is great. I am thrilled. BRILLIANT." (Thanks Benny!) Jiggery Pokery is currently being offered at a special launch price of $15. This will rise to $20 on 1st Feb. Mike |

I Like Chris Wasshuber's definition: "a clever self-working miracle" and I think that if one can juxtapose the effect performance with some good false shuffle such as Zarrow is, you can have a real miracle in your hands!..

I love Jiggery Pokery! There are only a few great gambling routines. I'm sure that Biagio Fasano's and Michael Daniel's „Jiggery Pokery“ might become such a great classic gambling routine!
"Jiggery Pokery" is as easy as it is an amazing routine. This routine is a clever self-working and 100% successful three-phase Texas Hold'em routine. It consists of a completely logical procedure, which follows the standard rules of Texas Hold'em. "Jiggery Pokery" is IMHO best suited for a close-up performance. The performer needs a poker deck, poker chips of four different colors and blind as well as dealer buttons. I like the possibility to customize "Jiggery Pokery" into a one, a two or a three phase routine. "Jiggery Pokery" may be presented as either a prediction or clairvoyance effect. The prediction effect is very easy and involves no memory work. The clairvoyance effect is more advanced, and requires some basic memorization. My personal favorite is to combine prediction and clairvoyance. If you are interested in a great Poker routine for mentalists, then “Jiggery Pokery” by Biagio Fasano & Michael Daniels is a must for you! Hans-Christian |

I just had the pleasure to receive this beautiful "review" from a great Italian magician and mentalist, Tony Binarelli:
"I appreciated your work (particularly the first part about the Prediction Effect which looks excellent) … not only and simply for the work itself but for the passion I found in it. Only with research can Magic improve, live, and survive ... The greatest pleasure in Magic is not only the performance but, above all, the research and the creativity and you are on the right path. Congratulations." - Tony Binarelli. Thank you so much for all your kind words, Tony!

I'm so proud to have received these kind words directly from a Star and a Master of Magic!:
“I love the @#%*. I also found interesting properties in some effects I have published. But you and Michael have! discovered a new application in this poker routine that I like a lot. The properties of the @#%*! that you have used make this a great self-working audience-participation routine. I like this ebook very much.” (Peter Duffie). Thank you Peter, fot such supportive comments and for all your generosity!... I and Michael would thank you also for all the precious time you spent reading J.P. and writing to us: You really give us the tonic we need to continue our work!.

This sounds really interesting.
On a personal note, I remember showing an old friend some fairly classic gambling themed tricks, as he had developed a keen interest in poker. Of course, the tricks I showed him were based around draw poker, or 5 card stud, whereas he only knew the rules of Texas Hold 'Em. This was years ago, and he briefly showed me the rules. I then came up with a trick, (unworthy of further explanation,) and when I performed it, he was more focussed on the procedural inaccuracies than on the effect. My mistake. I definitely neglected to burn a card somewhere, and there was one other error, which I forget, probably to do with nomenclature. Being dogged by nature, I tidied up these errors and promptly forgot the whole thing until now. What I'm saying is, that with keen Texas Hold 'Em players as your audience, they will notice. If someone showed me a Bridge based routine with incorrect procedure, or [GOD FORBID] incorrect bidding, I would be equally distracted and silently dismissive. So often, magicians will punt gambling routines as being useful for certain crowds, usually male, usually uninterested in magic. If you are trying to win hostile crowds over, then it's probably best not to give them a valid reason to slate you. Of course, a good magician can often waltz through discrepancies, with good presentation and good humour. The nagging thought for me is that a perfect gambling routine, when performed for a difficult audience, really does work well. As I said, this looks interesting, and I look forward to reading more more about it. |

Thanks for your interest tomsk192. Biagio and I recognise the problem you mention and we have included ways of justifying any procedural inconsistencies. The forthcoming update will also include further justifications.
The full three-phase routine is best performed for people who are familiar but not obsessed with Texas Hold'em. However, I have performed a two-phase routine for a professional poker player without being challenged on procedure. Although the full routine has three phases, each of the phases is self-contained and can be performed on its own, or any two of the phases can be combined. Phase 1 is a three-hand game. This phase is completely bullet-proof and there are NO deviations from standard Texas Hold'em procedure. A sealed prediction is placed on the table. The spectator (dealer) cuts the deck at ANY card and completes the cut. He then deals the two hole cards to each player. The next card is burned, then he deals the three flop cards, burns the next card, deals the turn card, burns the next card, and finally deals the river card. When the hands are examined in the showdown, all three hands match exactly the predictions made by the mentalist and the mentalist's hand always wins. Because there are no procedural inconsistencies in Phase 1, this phase can be performed with absolute confidence for any audience, including those who are regular or professional poker players. Phase 3 is a five-hand game. On more than 75% of occasions, Phase 3 has NO deviations from standard Texas Hold'em procedure. Again a prediction is tabled. The spectator (dealer) cuts at ANY card and completes the cut. He then deals the cards in the standard way. When the hands are examined in the showdown, the mentalist's prediction has correctly identified the values of all five hands and the mentalist's hand always wins. On the other occasions (less than 25%), the only deviation from standard procedure is that the top card needs to be burned (or shifted to the bottom of the deck) before the spectator starts dealing. No other adjustments are needed. Phase 1 can be combined with Phase 3 for a great two-phase routine that will fly past even seasoned poker players. Phase 2 (five hands) can be somewhat problematic for certain audiences because the dealing of the hole cards is irregular (the hole cards are dealt as pairs, not singly). However, we suggest ways in which this can be managed and justified. For example, the mentalist (who deals this phase) can be blindfold for a clairvoyance presentation, and this can be used as an excuse to deal the two cards for each player together. Other than dealing the hole cards in pairs, the remaining dealing in Phase 2 is regular on more than 75% of occasions. On the other occasions (less than 25%) the top card again needs to be burned or shifted to the bottom before the deal commences. No other adjustments are needed. Again the mentalist has correctly predicted each hand and the mentalist's hand always wins. In a clairvoyance presentation (which can be done for any phase), the mentalist can give additional detailed information about each player's hand. So my recommendation, if you are at all worried about being challenged on dealing procedure, is to go with Phase 1. If you are feeling confident, you can then follow up with Phase 3 (you have a better than 75% chance that the Phase 3 deal will be perfectly regular). If you don't want to take the small risk, then just finish with Phase 1. For most audiences, however, especially if made up of casual poker players, the three-phase routine works beautifully. Hope this helps. There are now just 24 hours to buy Jiggery Pokery at the introductory price of $15. Mike |

We are honored to have received some nice comments by Gianfranco Preverino, one of the most learned and respected of Italian magicians. Specialising in card magic, he is a leading expert on cheating techniques in gambling and has written some important books in Italian for card magicians, such as Il Re dei Bari(The King of Cheaters)and he has also contributed with two of his great poker effects to the book "Magic Hold'em" by Tom Frame!.
He defined our Jiggery pokery "interesting and clever" and was so kind to support us giving precious suggestions. He has generously allowed us to include his ideas for improving the presentation of Jiggery Pokery so that we have just released a new updated version available now on Lybrary.com. This Second Edition include, besides Preverino's addictions, some new perfectly logical ways of justifying any procedural inconsistencies that Mr. Frame uderlined in his review (also these discussed and improved by Gianfranco). We thanks Gianfranco for all his valuable contribution and support!.

Dear Tom,
I'm very sorry for getting the title of your book wrong. I own and like your book and recommended that Michael buy it (which he did) when we first started working together on Jiggery Pokery. I admit I was upset by your review on the Genii forum. As you know, this is my first published work in magic, but I tried with the help of Michael, to take every criticism, no matter how hard and unexpected, in a constructive way. I thank you for the time you spent in reading and reviewing our book, and I have the utmost respect for your professionalism. We are continuing our work on Jiggery Pokery and are always thinking of ways to improve it (as shown in our newly-released second edition). And we have been so lucky to cross paths with some great magicians along the way. All the comments we received, both positive and negative, have encouraged me to try to do better, and we thank everyone who has been kind enough to support our work! Best regards, Biagio (and Michael)
