So it begins ...
Welcome to the Official 2012 Book of Year Award Thread. The ground rules are simple: 1. The book must have a 2012 publisher's imprint or 2012 copyright 2. Perhaps painfully obvious, but still, it must be a physical book! I am doing a separate thread for e-books. 3. For the first time, compilations are eligible for the award. Again, the book or set of books must all bear the 2012 imprint or copyright 4. Café members voting must have 50 posts or more. This is not an implication that those with fewer posts know less about magic. But I will not tolerate a repeat of last year's fiasco. Also as a failsafe, I am asking the community's help here please? Your help would be appreciated in spotting a sudden surge in users with 50 posts. I really don't know how closely the Café powers that be check the posts which are supposed to be substantive. The voting goes on for a month beginning today, 31, December and ends on 31 January. 5. There are no "nominations." The book you name IS your vote. 6. Only one vote per member 7. IMPORTANT: If, like last year, a member who has a book being voted for is for whatever reason banned from the Café, all votes for that person's book will NOT count. If anybody has any issues with this please consult Café rules -the same rules we all agreed to when joining. If you feel there is still an issue, please take it up with the admins. I am not an admin. 8. In the unlikely event of a tie, we will do a two day runoff to determine the winner. Obviously results can be followed easily and the "award" will be no surprise. That said, I will provide running totals as time permits. The thing about doing this thread is that I cannot vote but, I do think it has been a good year for books. In the end, while the award carries no "prize" as such, it does serve as an informational resource as well as acknowledging the hard work that our authors have done. The Magic Café is to my knowledge the largest open magic forum and recognition is a good thing as pastwinners have expressed. On a personal note, to me, every book is a winner in that the purpose of a book is to expand our knowledge and deepen our love for this beautiful art. Thank you in advance to all on The Café for participating and to the authors who have graced us with simply wonderful work in 2012. Best, Vlad |

Vlad, any chance of listing the books you know were published in 2012?

Hmm...I've done way too much reading this year...I would have to say that freshly released this year, Emotional Mentalism by my friend Luca, get's my vote. Great pieces, but the premise of all the work and making your working emotionally charged is what sent me on a whole new thought process...
Happy New Year, -Jakob |

Hello everyone,
I have to agree with others on this thread about Luca Volpe's book, Emotional Mentalism. This book is a gold mine of information on psychic work. Highly recommend. Best Ray |

UNREAL by Bruce Bernstein.
Easy pick for me this year. Unreal is Bruce Bernstein's collected life's work in mentalism. It is time-tested, sharply honed and brilliant. |

Unreal as well, by Bruce Bernstein, for the reasons given directly above. This one is so good.
