This one looks like a riot! Can anyone please give me a review of this one?
Thanks Kid

Hello:
It's a beautifully made effect. It can be done fairly close up, but angles are a problem. If you plan on getting it, I also recommend getting Mike Close's video "Too Close" because he has some excellent work on this effect - some nice touches that don't come with the instructions. Ron |

Let me add a little tip. I have it and also love the Close routine for it, but if you buy it, be warned, don't leave this thing in your car in the summer. Mine warped and now it won't work properly. I took it back to Ton but he wouldn't do anything about it. Nothing I do can fix it. I don't remember seeing any warning in the instructions and I am not a happy camper given the cost.

Yes and Close's routine is really good. Powerful stand-up work that packs small and plays big!
One other tip is not to perform this with backlight (in front of a window). The prop is rather transparent. Good advice concerning the high temperatures, I can imagine you're not amused...

I love it, the audiences love it. One of my best purchases.

What is the effect involved in Lucky Lady?
emyers99, would you be so kind as to let me know how to contact Ton. He came out with a packet trick in Genii magazine back around 1982 and my copy of the magazine got destroyed and I'm trying to get a copy of the routine again. Hopefully, Ton still has the "proof" for the magazine article and would be willing to run me a copy of it. Thanks. Mike

I spoke to Ton at last year's MagiFest here in Columbus. I'm sure there has to be a way to contact him but I don't have any useful information for you. Sorry. Try contacting Genii. Maybe they have an old copy of hte magazine. |

I found this at the end of my instructions for "Bicycle Built for Five" by Ton:
Magic Land of Japan. Yamatoya Bldg., 3-5-2 Kayaba-cho, Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo 103 Perhaps you could also contact Hideo Kato here at the Café as he is a very helpful guy from Tokyo. Hope this helps.
Yours,
Ivan |

If none of the other suggestions work, you can contact Joe or Mark Stevens at Stevens Magic. They have a close relationship with Ton and I believe visit him once or twice a year. Surely, they'll have some contact info.

I myself needed to contact Ton and after a lot of searching I found Ton's website, which is http://www.magicland-jp.com/ His email is also included. I emailed him some days ago, but have not received a reply yet.
Considering Ton's renown and the popularity of his effects I was very surprised to find the website is only in Japanese with no English version. You can use Altavista's Babel Fish (thanks for the tip, Niva) to translate the site, but get ready for a lot of head scratching, for the program's limitations means you will get a lot of garbled grammar. With the exception of named items such as Z-Ray, it's quite a task to try to figure out what effect the descriptions refer to! Any other info on English descriptions of Ton's superb products would be appreciated. Meantime, I hope to hear from Ton himself! |

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions in locating Ton. As suggested, I contacted Joe and Mark Stevens, Hideo Kato and Richard Kaufman. Hideo and Richard responded and I was able to get the info I needed from Richard.
Richard went WAAAY beyond the call of duty and civility in helping me out. Numerous emails back and forth. He also checked with Mr. Database (Max Maven, who else?) and was able to locate the exact 1983 issue that the routine was in!! A copy of the routine is on its way to me from Richard. I can hardly wait to begin re-learning this effect. 36 "Atta-boys" is hereby being awarded to Richard from this grateful recipient. Mike
