Here are some tracks that may, or may not, test folks tracking skills. Mens size 12 boot for reference.

Nope, definitely an animal with more than one leg. And less than five.

I'm guessing that those are pairs of tracks that have melted together.

You've really got me. I suppose a wolverine or cougar could leave "straight line" tracks like that, but these are too huge. Hmmm. Anyone else?

It's actually a pretty common gait for this animal. Definitely not a wolverine down here, nor is it a cat of any kind.

What do you have that is that big and doesn't have cloven hooves? Shouldn't your bears be hibernating?

Ooookaayy.
Anyway, Magnus the answer is coyote tracks. They are coyote tracks that melted out in a way that leaves them somewhat intact, but they look huge.(You were on the right track when you said something about two tracks melted together.) Somewhat common phenomenon that often leads people to believe there are 300 lb wolves, or 150 lb coyotes stalking the woods. |

Very nice. I could see the pads (or I could pretend I saw them when horse's hooves were ruled out), but it I'm a bit surprised by the straight line of the gait. Nice teaser, Marlin.

That's my version of a friendly compliment. If you still think I'm normal then sucks to have those powers of observation.
Anyway, I live in grizzly country so we see tracks that look like huge barefoot human feet. The first time I saw one I thought "who would be this far out at this time of year barefoot? Oh... bear foot..."

The yote in the pic below is trotting and you can see even from the picture that it's feet are pretty much in a straight line. Pretty cool. |

Foxes have very interesting gait patterns. I've got a bunch more tracks around that I might put up later. Been giving serious thought to just disappearing into the woods for good. Humans are just too exhausting to interact with
