This might sound a little silly, but that never stopped me before. Can anyone recommend a "magic" vacation spot? I want to take a short trip with my wife, but I was wondering if there are any "magic friendly" cities (i.e. good magic clubs for shows, shops, history, etc..)

Hey Josie67,
Well from what I can remember, Magic magazine did a special about two years ago on spending three days and nights of solid magic in Las Vegas. Other than this I can't say that I have read any other articles that relate to this topic. You could always try going to the Blackpool in England for the Blackpool convention? http://www.blackpoolmagic.com/ ......ut0.html You should be able to check and see what’s on during different dates at these sites and tie it in with your time off. - This site will give you some idea of whats on in the UK: http://www.magicweek.co.uk/ - You could also check and see what’s happening in the U.S. using this site http://allmagic.com/magicshow/calendar/events.cgi I hope these sites help you out some, Michael A.

Why not visit Zaragoza, Spain? Pablo Tejera, an active member of this Café, is heavily involved in organizing the event.

Spain is a tough weekend trip. My wife would love to go, but that would require powerful magic. Does anyone know any way to produce money from thin air? $$$

Josie67, did you get a chance to see David Copperfield while he was there in Syracuse a couple of weeks ago? David again performed in Atlantic City on Halloween. I would think that Atlantic City could be like Las Vegas; magic shows in just about every casino. Perhaps your newspaper has an entertainment section that lists various magic shows in Atlantic City. I have never been to New York, so it is just a guess on my part. Hope this helps!

I didn't see Copperfield. I had another commitment that night. I heard it was very good.
I am not that familiar with Atlantic City, but we do try to catch a show or two when we go to Vegas. I will have to look into what’s happening in A.C. Thanks for the idea!

Josie67,
You might also want to take a look at the forum "The marquee says..." right here in The Magic Café. This is the place for people to post magic show schedules and things of that sort. Hopefully this will help you out.

I would recommend Las Vegas.

For a weekend trip: Las Vegas. When you are able to produce money from thin air: China and India. Both countries have been performing magic for centuries.

Las Vegas would definitely be a good place to catch some magic. But if you ever in NY, there are some nice shows you can catch. Monday Night Magic is really good and there's also another show about card magic that's apparently $50 a ticket. Just do a search for it.
http://www.livemagicguide.com/[/url is a good place to check for live shows. Hope you find your destination. Have a wonderful time! |

A weekend getaway from Syracuse?
The IBM international convention is in Cleveland in 2004, and that's an easy drive for a weekend from upstate NY. Dates for the conventions are June 29 to July 2, if I recall correctly. I'll be there so, if you can make it, . . . cheers, Peter Marucci showtimecol@aol.com |

One of the best magic shows I've seen was Warren and Annabelle's in Maui. But I would not recommend Maui for just a weekend!
Very cool place. Very fun show. I know a number of non-magicians who have seen it and just rave about it. My wife and I both loved it. |

I don't know what type of magic you were looking for but Oz Pearlman has a show on Sunday nights in N.Y. City. The link below is his website with the show info on the front page.
