Now Rockwall, you know a statement doesn't apply that its converse is necessarily true. Just because employees should wash their hands after going to the bathroom at a restaurant doesn't mean that non-employees shouldn't. Similarly, just because you should confess when busted doesn't mean you shouldn't confess if you haven't been.

E.g., put it into some pension plan that is untouchable by the courts, or move it offshore.

I apologize for leding you astray it is Lance Armstrong that we are talking about. The French are looking for a $90,000,000 settlement, and I'm afraid when all the Americans suits exact their pound of flesh Lance will be pan handling for groceries, and have no other way to make a buck.

What I mean by that is that (apparently) Armstrong was never a collegial, supportive, team player. It appears he was always a shallow, 'me first' individual, who later compelled his fellow athletes to dope etc., who took great pleasure in tearing down others, and ruining the personal and professional lives of anyone who dared to get in his way. Which differs him, BTW, from many other athletes who 'cheated' but did not go out of their way to ruin other athletes' personal lives etc. as Armstrong did. A lot of people are now calling Armstrong a 'bully' and I think that fits. I would never consider a 'bully' to be a great sports figure. IMO, 'great' should encompass more than athletic ability.

There are bike riders who have lost law suits to him, he has taken money from many corporate sponsors, bike races who have awarded him money, charities that have paid him money, news papers who have lost law suits to him, and careers he has destroyed only to name a few ****ed off people. Besides the French there sure are a lot of people who want their share of his $100,000,000. Lance Armstrong also has absolutely no value it the market place for the rest of his life. For those who think that he admitted guilt, so everything is cool now. The do do only has begun to hit the fan.

Rightly so Al. If people are not forced to pay the price when they are caught at it, there is no point in having any rules at all. Though at the very top, the banksters etcetera, they never pay the price when they are caught, rather they are rewarded. Justice = Just us.

While Al likes to make predictions, he rarely likes to back them up. I wouldn't put much faith in anything Al is attempting to predict. I suspect balducci has this one much closer to the mark. Will Lance lose a lot of money? Absolutely. Will he end up pan handling for groceries? (Or anything else for that matter?) Ummm, not so much.

I don't know if it is true or not. In an article I read in the newspaper yesterday it made mention of a possible fact. that Sporting events such as the Tour De France etc.. Are so designed that it is not humanly possible to win without doping. If that is true then that and everything else like it needs to be re done from the ground up and very heavily controlled to help prevent this type of thing from happening. It isn't an excuse for doping either. Everyone that does it is wrong regardless of if it is the only way to win.

I am angry at Lance Armstrong for making me even know about cycling. The fact that I know he had 7 titles makes me mad.

I could be wrong, but when you admit to using every form of cheating imaginable for seven tour victories you would think that the French authorities would have a good case for a refund, but then again I could be dead wrong.

Here is a copy of a post earlier in this thread and my response. I do not bbelieve most here realize what is asked of these cyclists.
One simply does not work their way up to that level of performance without being 1) a genetically gifted, absolutely phenomenal athlete (VO2 max and the whole nine yards) and 2) Doping. I suspect that anyone here who is a serious and accomplished (clean) bike racer recognizes the huge seperation between what they can do and what these guys do. While most of us (racers) didn't want to believe it - doping was essential to even get the kind of performance that would get you recognized or considered for elite competition. Further, if you weren't already at the very pinnacle of athleticism, don't even bother with doping - it still wouldn't be enough. What they do is truly superhuman by definition. They win no prizes for ethics however. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Very well put. Believe it or not these are probably the most conditioned athelets in the world. If you just sit back and see what they are asked to do. Just look what is asked in the Tour de France. Is is seemingly an impossible task much less to be done with any speed. Does this mean I condone doping. Nope. But it sure gives them a reason. I am not sure everyone does it but I am willing to wager anyone of notierity in the sport does. Does not make it right just a fact of life in the sport.
If I were to agree with you. Then we would both be wrong. As of Apr 5, 2015 10:26 pm I have 880 posts. Used to have over 1,000

Point is NOBODY ASKS THEM TO DO IT AT ALL! If you can't compete, then don't. Why is that so hard? Once guys can't do it, then it won't be so tough.
