Have just had the Alakazam ad for the above effect; am a BIG fan of Caswells effects (Trilogy, Cataclysm and The Fifth Card...). I have not seen this, other than the demo video, which looked good and I could see myself incorporating this into my routines.....was very amused, though, to see the ad for 'Brain' Caswells effect. Mind you, with the aforementioned effects, maybe 'Brain' is a good nickname for him because he comes up with some excellent stuff!
Anybody got this yet? If so, prepared to review it? Is it a good addition to a routine that utilises eitherTrilogy or Cataclysm? Cheers, Martyn

Hopefully getting this today, ordered yesterday. I really liked the demo. Will review later. I also have trilogy and cataclysm and will use one or the other in my routine.

Martyn, I think ITF looks quite good... But I believe I am not the only one who got the working straight away... If I would like to perform it I wouldn't buy it; I feel sorry for Peter Nardi as Alakazam does an excellent job! Jan

Yes, not put any more thought nto the 'hows' and the 'whys' of it yet....bit busy with aviation matters presently. I like Brians work a lot though....Trilogy is always a crowd pleaser for me. Always a dilemna with demos and the reverse engineering problem. I think that we were too doncerned with it on Up The Ante - result was a video that didn't really show anything! Not sure that we needed to have been so secretive about it, either! I would always support the creator, though, personally.

Seems to be a self working theme at the moment what with Dave Forrest's The Butterfly Effect

There is a little idea I would like to share with you. May be you like it as much as I do… I believe sometimes ONE word can change a lot…
Following the routine and to make sure that both spectators think of different cards (just precaution ...) you can ask them that one thinks of a red and one of a black card. With a good reason it does not give the feeling of any restriction; besides that people will forget it before you reach your climaxes. At the end you could show on the backs of the cards (from left to right, audience view) the words “This is one” plus “AND this is one”. Jan

I believe the working is too obvious on this effect, certainly if you see the type of deck that is used. Certainly if you already own "The Fifth Card" and "Thouht Waves". I am a bit disappointed by Alakazam on this one.

Just out from Alakazam: Brian Caswell's "Into the Future."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSnQNWXhMh8&feature=youtu.be This looks like it might be akin to Caswell's Trilogy Streamline. I'm observing, not criticizing. Check the deck. If it is indeed a new take on the Trilogy principal, I think it's an improvement because it eliminates the fudging around for the right numbers. If you know Trilogy S, you'll know what I mean. This effect is less complicated than Trilogy and a lot more direct, which, to my mind, gives it more impact. And I think Nardi's patter is terrific. His introduction is quite convincing and it comes across as true mentalism, rather than a card trick. Good acting, Peter! Trilogy can bog down in the details and the directions to the spectators. "Into the Future" is able to focus on the mentalism and the presentation. For me this is Caswell's cleanest prediction effect -- no clutter, no "confusion," very simple and straightforward in plot and execution. Kudos all 'round! GW P. S. Wish I could see what's written on those cards . . . |

P. P. S. Lounge, The working may seem obvious to us, but probably not to an audience. I have fooled magicians with Trilogy Streamline. Most people don't think of the concept or possibility of a deck like this.
P. P. P. S. Jan, What a great idea! I viewed the demo again and did manage to read what's written. Your addition of AND would add to the effect, I think. I guess the question is, though, are you sacrificing anything by adding the restriction. I think not. First of all, picking a red and black seems logical in your context. And most people won't pay attention to it. And after the effect is over, probably no one will even remember that you said it anyway. And I doubt that folks will be able to backtrack and connect the "restriction" to the different "messages" on the backs. Hopefully the element of surprise at the reveal would keep logic at bay, so to speak. |

It reminds me of Tim Ellis - Deckstress from his Ellis in Wonderland DVD

Second thoughts about the request for a red and a black card -- and the addition of AND. If you stick with the patter Peter uses, you have not looked at the faces but merely marked the backs as you dealt the cards face down the day before. So . . . the mentalist should be as amazed as the spectators at his psychic abilities. I think this adds to the surprise and the mystery of this routine, and it makes the whole idea of psychic feelings or hunches more convincing. I'm thinking that would turn me away from the idea of the And on the second card. Can't wait to get this and try it out both ways to see which works best for me.

But you can stick to Peter's presentation. You sign two cards on the back without seeing their faces; therefore you do write "this one" and "and this one". Jan

Jan,
Well, of course! Duuuh! Don't know why I didn't think it through and see that. I guess I was hung up on chronology, which is not really an issue. So your addition to the routine should be quite effective -- and no problem. |

This effect is more direct than trilogy s but has the trouble of a deck 'looking' normal and thus requiring a switch if you want to bring this in. Trilogy S introduction is more justified. BTW Being a deck fanatic, what brand of p*****c cards is this? Anybody knows?

Jan's right. Wrong to reveal the deck. Suffice it to say, you will have to buy this routine. You can't DIY.
