I am working as a bartender right now, and been doing a couple of routines using flashpaper, l also do some coinmagic.
l guess my imagination is not good enough though, cause l can't seem to come up with any routines combining those two.. l saw a Chad Long video lecture once, guess he had a routine, but l can't remember it.. Any suggestions?

How about incorporating flash paper in a coins across effect? Wrap the last coin in flash paper and light it on fire to make it vanish, after which it appears with the remaining coins.

I agree with Larry. Bobo's has a diagram of how you can seem to really fold a coin into a piece of paper and then make it vanish. Flash paper would be perfect for that.

Check out Nate Kranzo's DVD Visual Voodoo. There are coin routines with fire and flash paper.

Chad Long's idea is very good. I have a one behind production - vanish - production of 3 coins. The first phase is done utilizing Chad's idea. And since you're one behind the handling with flashpaper an CP'ed coins get a lot easier.
Since the coins get produced from fire, I get an excuse to drop the two coins on the table (the do get awfully hot ) and pick them up again and do a clickpass to create the illusion of a third coin. I usually tell them that the paper is recycled dollar bills. The paper has to turn into coins for a reason - imho anyway Jesper Try it out - it's very good. |

I find the simplist applications are the best, although Chad Long's routine is very cool, and Doug Brewer performed something like it using a coin cup at COINvention that also played well. For myself, I have a small purse containing small strips of flash paper. I tell the audience they are the fortunes from fortune cookies. As I pocket the purse, I steal a bunch of coins. They are Downs palmed, and the "fortune" taken at the fingertips of the palming hand. When the fortune is lit, I produce the coins in a fan.
Essentially, the John Cornelius cigarette production, done with coins, but a surefire intorduction at any table. I have seen magicians strike up conversations with people using this production to produce a candy kiss. For a less obvious application of the FP, you might want to try Michael Ammar's "Flash Coins" described in The Ammar Book, and the Topit book, or was it Apocalypse?

In a Flash by Jay Sankey is a great routine using flash paper and a coin! It's a very good Bar trick IMO.

How about Fire Trap...great routine for a bar.
A coin is signed wrapped in a piece of paper, lit with a book of matches and vanishes then reappears sealed in the flap of a match book. How visual can you get with something so simple?

Thanks guys!
Some great routines mentioned. Since I'm pressed for time when I perform behind the bar I do believe a simple and fast routine is the best. I'll try to search for some of the stuff mentioned, and get my presentation flawless for those nice wow's!! But, any suggestions on a Coins through Table using flash paper?? -e-

A few hundred years ago, I learned the following.
Take a small square of flash paper and write "I O U 9-cents" on it and wrap a penny. You want all the lettering so it is hidden by the penny before you wrap it. Have it finger palmed. Borrow a dime and wrap it to match the wrapped penny. Switch. Ditch dime as you go for a lighter. Packet with penny on flat of hand, light it and the dime is now a penny. Slide the penny over and the paper under it is not burned and reveals the I-O-U message. Don't discount the impact of this one.

Jim Pace opens his tableside Miser's Dream routine with a production of a silver dollar in a burst of flashpaper.
Cody Fisher's Turtle Coins (an adaptation of David Roth's S***l Coins Across) has the last coin vanishing from your hand in a flash and reappearing in the spectator's hand. Cheers, Jerry |

Nice penny/dime trick. You could make quite a bit of money with that one if you did it enough -- and if flash paper wasn't so darned expensive.

Chris, that's a great idea!!!!! And it could be accomplished by using Ultra Smoke 2000.

The use of flash paper with coins has always gotten a great response. The Long routine got a great response.
Thanks to Mr. Biro for reminding me about the dime to penny. Seems like it might be in Bobo? For many years I have given up fire including the droping of my fire eating and flash paper. Just a personal decision. This post reminds me that I need to check on insurance for next year. Just a suggestion to check with your employers about the use of pyrotech.... stuff. Just my 2 liberty halfs worth. Have a safe and nearly normal HOYC. (holiday of your choice) Harris

Gary Kurtz' finishes "Misty" by wrapping the 3 coins in (flash) paper.... when he lights it / tosses it into the air... the coins turn to glitter... nice stuff (this can be seen on his "Creating Magic Vid.")

Doesn't the photographic coin use flash paper?
I know there is a coin routine using flash paper, expanded shell and coin in Paul Curry's Worlds Beyond book. |
